Toliy (who's been sorta interning with me this summer) will be working with us for another couple of weeks before he heads back to college, and he's been wanting to make an adjustable height stool to match the sawhorse desk we made a while back. To refresh - this sawhorse desk goes from desk - To a tallish coffee table by just adjusting bolts. You can find the plans here. Yup, 2x4s and all-thread. Now for a stool to match ... After quite a few tweaks and trips to the hardware store ... I think we finally nailed bolted it! It ended up being much simpler than we had thought. Then made a base out of 2x2s, and drilled holes in it to hold the all-thread, And then just used bolts and washers to secure the all-thread to the stool at the top and bottom of the cross supports. Although this looks a bit fancy it’s actually very cheap and easy (although you will have wood stain under your fingernails for days). 1) Select an image you like – I used this vintage image of an octopus from Graphics fairy (google her it’s fantastic). 2) I laser etched my draws as I work with them all the time and I could do it for free (well I had to babysit my bosses kids while doing it but free enough). 3) Right now you’re ready for the wood. 4) Put together 3 full size bits and your little skinny bit to make a 33cm square panel. 5) Cut 8 33cm square bits of ply. 6) Staining – forget everything about applying stain in nice even swoops. 7) Glue glue glue. 8) When dry take your draw front and a plain bit of ply (this is why you needed 8).
