I am thoroughly enjoying this series. As of this writing, I have finished viewing disks one through five. I am awed at the detail that Ric Burns went to in putting this documentary together. One feels the passion, the good times and the bad in New York City's history. It has been wonderful watching the history unfold from the time of the first Dutch ship coming ashore right through to the present.

If you care about American history, you definitely want to see this exceptional piece of work. Was this review helpful? Barnesandnoble. I watched this film with the expectation that it would disappoin I watched this film with the expectation that it would disappoint me as so many other films had. However, this film was a total surprise! The film kept my interest., I learned alot from it. If you wish to understand the great depression you have to also understand the affects of the great "Dust Bowl" It is appalling that it was so huge in scope and so much land destroyed. The affects were profound and would be for many years to come. Was this review helpful? Acclaimed producer Philip Gardiner's new DVD, "Angels, Demons and Freemasons" explores these other intriguing issues, leaving viewers with as many questions as answers. At the heart of Gardiner's argument is the notion that Freemasonry, along with its hidden rituals and archaic symbolism, embodies centuries of esoteric knowledge once shared among priests, scribes, military rulers and royalty. His analysis probes deep into the gnostic world of the Egyptian pharaohs, Kabbalistic Judaism, Islamic Sufism and various types of ancient and medieval alchemy Was this review helpful?

Martin Luther DVD I was really amazed about Martin Luther’s quest in finding his close relationship with God. What was so peculiar to me was that Martin Luther was determined to have a close relationship with God through individual salvation instead of redemption from the Catholic Church. Martin Luther to give his life to Jesus Christ becoming a monk. He did not felt Jesus Christ’s spiritual connection. Martin Luther went through extreme sacrifices like Jesus Christ did. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

This documentary covers the period that started with the arrival of the first Europeans and a bloody civil war raging in the 16th century C.E. that led to the establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1603 C.E.

After defeating his remaining adversaries in 1600 C.E., Tokugawa Ieyasu was appointed Shogun by the emperor and established his capital in Edo, the future Tokyo, in 1603 C.E. Ieyasu’s successors, the Shoguns, remained in power for over 250 years until the Meiji restoration in 1868 C.E., which ushered Japan into its modern era. Japan, Memoirs of a Secret Empire, ends with the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry and his ships on Japan’s shores in 1853 C.E. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? Story of India by Pbs (Direct), Jeremy Jeffs, Michael Wood | 841887010160 | DVD. India: Exhilarating Blend of Continuity and Change To his credit, English historian and broadcaster Michael Wood does a great job of making several aspects of the Indian history accessible to a wide audience. Although Wood mainly focuses on India, he also looks at the contribution of what are today's Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, to name a few countries, to the history of India.

Wood gives the 50,000-foot view of for example the Harappan civilization, the Buddha and Buddhism, the Chola Kingdom, the Mughal Empire, the British Raj, and India's struggle for freedom. Wood spends much time on exploring the life of ordinary Indians. What viewers glean from watching this series is that most Indians remain close to their cultural, religious roots while being open to change. 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
