(2011. 127 Hours. 127 Hours is a 2010 British-American biographical survival drama film directed, co-written and produced by Danny Boyle. The film stars James Franco as real-life canyoneer Aron Ralston, who became trapped by a boulder in an isolated slot canyon in Blue John Canyon, southeastern Utah, in April 2003.

Plot[edit] On Friday, 25 April 2003, Aron Ralston (James Franco) prepares for a day of canyoneering in Utah's Canyonlands National Park as he drives to the trailhead at night. The next morning he rides through the park on his mountain bike, aiming to cut 45 minutes off the guide book's estimate for the time needed to reach his destination. He is on foot, running along a bare rock formation when he sees two hikers, Kristi (Kate Mara) and Megan (Amber Tamblyn), apparently lost. Ralston continues into Blue John Canyon, through a narrow passage where boulders are suspended, wedged between the walls of rock.

An ingenue insinuates herself in to the company of an established but aging stage actress and her cirle of theatre friends. All About Eve : The Classic Review by Judith Lucy Joseph L Mankiewicz's Academy award winning 1950's gem ALL ABOUT EVE is set in the world of New York theatre where Margo Channing (BETTE DAVIS) is an aging star, insecure about playing ingénues now that she has hit forty but even more vulnerable about her relationship with director Bill Sampson (GARY MERRILL) who is eight years her junior. Along comes the title character Eve Harrington (ANN BAXTER) a supposedly dedicated fan of Margot's who quickly embeds herself in the lives of not only Margot and Bill but their best friends: playwright Lloyd Richards (HUGH MARLOWE) and his wife Karen (CELEST HOLM).

Sanders won an Oscar for his performance but the film belongs to Davis who, having wound up with her on screen lover in real life, later admitted to not knowing where MARGOT CHANNING ended and she began. Further comments. At the Movies: The Act Of Killing. Former Indonesian death squad leaders to reenact their real-life mass-killings. Margaret: David: The Act Of Killing Rated MA Review by Margaret Pomeranz One of the most confronting documentaries I've ever seen is Joshua Oppenheimer's THE ACT OF KILLING which revisits the genocide of communists and ethnic Chinese in Indonesia during the mid 1960's through the people who actually carried out the killings.

Not only does he interview these men he asks them to recreate scenes of the killings in whatever way they choose. Key to the film is gangster ANWAR CONGO who got a lot of his ideas from American movies. There is an extended version of the film, which is the version I saw, and a 40 minute shorter version which I believe is the one being released in cinemas here. The fact that these acts are condoned amongst various levels of government is astonishing, the fact that even today the government relies on the paramilitary forces and gangsters to maintain some sense of order is mind-boggling.

At the Movies: Adam's Rib : The Classic. Domestic and professional tensions mount when a husband and wife work as opposing lawyers. Adam's Rib : The Classic Review by David Stratton ADAM'S RIB was the sixth of the nine films Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy - who were secret lovers in real life - made together. It's a comedy, but they also made dramas, like KEEPER OF THE FLAME and THE SEA OF GRASS, and films with political themes, like STATE OF THE UNION and GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER. ADAM'S RIB was written by the husband and wife team of Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon - Gordon will be remembered by many as the eccentric old lady in ROSEMARY'S BABY and HAROLD AND MAUDE, but those movies came a lot later.

ADAM'S RIB was the second of three original screenplays the team wrote for director George Cukor, and apart from anything else it foreshadows feminism by almost 20 years. The year is 1949, the height of the Cold War and McCarthyism, and this delicious comedy seems years ahead of its time. Further comments DAVID: Margaret? 20 Feet from Stardom (2013.
