Why Social Media is important

With each new technology, there are always a great many mistakes made, at least until we get the hang of it. Richard Nixon, who had great radio appeal, lost the first televised Presidential debate (and subsequently the election) in 1960 to John F. Kennedy because he looked like a train wreck on the small screen. Many of us have fallen prey to the more mundane mistakes that come from accidental emails, texts, and tweets. The good news is that many of us learn from our mistakes, but only if and when we own up to them.

At the corporate headquarters of my current company, we have a large white wall affectionately named “The Failure Wall.” When I read the news, I can’t help but think of what certain newsmakers would write on The Failure Wall if they visited our offices. We’ve had some epic social media failures. Clearly, the idea of your groupies turning against you is terrifying. Social Tools Workflow. I’ve changed up how I’m using social media tools lately, and I thought I’d write it up, in case this proves useful to you.

Social Tools Workflow

Your mileage will vary. This is just what’s working for me. Listening I’m still using RSS searches more than anything else for listening, seeing as most of my listening is just for personal projects at this point. If I were going to pay for a listening tool, my choices of late would be some mix of Radian6, Sysomos, and/or Trackur. Blogging I use WordPress for my home base for several reasons. Outposts I’ve pretty much abandoned Facebook. Twitter, I’ve just recently restructured to give me more of a “news” feeling than a “conversation” feeling. Google+ is my primary outpost at this point. WorkFlow Here’s a rough sketch of one of the workflows that I’m using these days: Use listening tools to determine how else to be helpful. When I’m spending time on social media platforms these days, that’s what I’m doing. Curious to Know About YOUR Workflows and Any Changes.
