The Open University, the UK's open access university, which allows people to study from home in their own time, has been an international pioneer of degree courses online. The university, with more than 263,000 students in 23 countries, has become a record breaker on the iTunes U service, which provides a digital library of materials for university students and staff. Instead of music or movies, Apple's iTunes U provides a download service for lectures and resources from universities around the world. DIYbio is an organization that aims to help make biology a worthwhile pursuit for citizen scientists, amateur biologists, and DIY biological engineers who value openness and safety. What is DIYbio's mission? -- Len Sassaman, DIYbio google group Schmidt M, 2008. IRGC 2008. Other Papers: MIT OPEN COURSEWARE!! Hello Everyone, Welcome to my new blog about learning DIY BIO.
I figured that if I am going to be compiling information I might as well post it for others to see. First off, I have no BIO background, I only have an intense burning enthusiasm to learn it. So my only knowledge at this point comes from devouring the New Scientist every day. If you are in the same boat, you'll find this blog useful. The first order of business is for us to develop a deep and rigorous conceptual understanding of all the Micro Biology and Genetic Engineering data that is out there.
I strongly believe that it is the destiny of Nature to develop consciousness and eventually develop the awareness to understand itself and eventually responsibly shape its own future through an intelligent design rather than by billion year chance-by-chance kludgey mutations. Ok, enough of the motivational philosophy stuff and onwards with the motivational learning speach. Ok my fellow BIO enthusiasts, go fill up your minds!
