Entropy of a Gas

In aerodynamics, we are most interested in thermodynamics in the study of propulsion systems and understanding high speed flows. The first law of thermodynamics indicates that the total energy of a system is conserved. Total energy includes the potential and kinetic energy, the work done by the system, and the transfer of heat through the system. The second law of thermodynamics indicates that, while many physical processes that satisfy the first law are possible, the only processes that occur in nature are those for which the entropy of the system either remains constant or increases. Entropy, like temperature and pressure, can be explained on both a macro scale and a micro scale. Estes Cineroc (1970) I’ve been after a Cineroc on and off for many, many years.

Estes Cineroc (1970)

I finally managed to acquire one through a private sale and was very pleased. The Cineroc was produced from about 1970 – 1975. Rumor has it that production stopped when the tiny motor that drove the camera’s mechanisms was no longer available from the supplier. Due to their short production run, Cinerocs are very collectable amongst rocketry enthusiasts, and perhaps cinematographers as well. History of Flight, Aviation, Space Exploration. DIY Homemade Ranque-Hilsch Vortex Cooling Tube

Well maybe not... but I always wanted one and they really aren't that hard to make. I built one in one afternoon in the garage from PVC pipe, glue, a few tube fittings, a adjustable clamp and some sawing and filing... The cool thing about them is there are no moving parts or high tolerance dimensions to hold when making your very own vortex cooling tube! All you need after building it is compressed air to get it to run and you get hot air out one end and cold air out the other. Poor mans "Liquid Nitrogen" Notes on Liquifying Air. What is Air?

Notes on Liquifying Air

Dry air is made up of approximately 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and 1% Argon, by volume. There are trace amounts of other stuff, like CO2, Neon, and Helium. Liquid Nitrogen is fun stuff to mess around with; even better, liquid Oxygen is both fun and dangerous! Farnsworth Fusor (“Carl’s Jr.”) « Special Nuclear Material. Fusor. Mercury-arc valve. This manuscript was re-discovered in 1961, in the Sibiu public records (Sibiu public records Varia II 374). As the manuscript was discovered only in 1961 until recently the conception of such stabilizers and their name had been suggested in the 17th century by the Polish-Lithuanian military engineer Kazimierz Siemienowicz.[2][3][4] Delta wing[edit] Pump-jet. A view of pump-jets operating A pump-jet, hydrojet, or water jet is a marine system that creates a jet of water for propulsion. The mechanical arrangement may be a ducted propeller with nozzle, or a centrifugal pump and nozzle. Invention[edit] Typical use[edit] Sears–Haack body. Sears–Haack body The Sears–Haack body is the shape with the lowest theoretical wave drag in supersonic flow, for a given body length and given volume. The mathematical derivation assumes small-disturbance (linearized) supersonic flow, which is governed by the Prandtl-Glauert equation. The derivation and shape were published independently by two separate researchers: Wolfgang Haack in 1941 and later by William Sears in 1947.[1] The theory indicates that the wave drag scales as the square of the second derivative of the area distribution, (see full expression below), so for low wave drag it's necessary that be smooth.

Construction: The kit consists of a really big blow-molded nose cone and tail cone, two sheets of laser cut balsa fins, motor mount tube, main airframe body tube, motor retainer hook, motor block ring, sheet of die-cut cardboard centering rings, 1/4" x 30" rubber shock cord, 3/16" launch lug, black motor hook retainer ring, decal sheet, two blocks of clay nose weight, and 18" parachute. All parts were present and none were damaged. It contains typical Estes instructions: well written and in a logical order. Laser-cut fins are a little harder to remove from the sheet than die-cuts have been. The plastic tail cone makes it pretty hard to misalign the fins on this one. ArduRocket first flight. The very beginning of the flight had a bit of a twist to it, but the rocket stabilized quickly.
