Enjoy!!!! Sending this to. Watermelon Lime Lemonade | Life and Kitchen. End of School Year Strawberry Lemonade. It happened again: another child completed another year of school. Last Friday we celebrated my son completing preschool and this Friday, my daughter completed first grade. A brave smile was on my face when I shared in my daughter’s excitement as we piled into the van after the school bell rang. I am a sappy nostalgic person that is full of pride but knows with that final first grade bell, we are closer to her to being a ’grown-up’.

Now that those feelings are out there, let’s all celebrate health and togetherness with some semi-homemade strawberry lemonade. I spied a pretty bottle of preservative free, no HFCS lemonade and decided to pair it with the quart of organic strawberries I had also just purchased. Please note that one of our adult guests discovered that this recipe is further enhanced with gin. Strawberry Lemonade 1.75 liters lemonade (I used Mayer Brothers) 16 oz. organic strawberries, rinsed, hulled and chopped roughly. 1 lemon, sliced (optional) Directions 1. 2. 3. Homemade Ice Caps. Starbucks frappuccino, homemade iced coffee healthy frappe. Milk punch. Old as it may be, I hadn’t heard of milk punch before a few weeks ago but can assure you, I’ve thought about nothing else since, not blizzards, not book deadlines and not how long it will take for all of the molars to show up so we can get back to sleeping again.

Nope, nothing but milk punch. An avid fan of eggnog — also, John Denver & The Muppets Chrismas album, carolers, chestnuts roasting on open fires and all sorts of things that are probably not expected from girl who celebrates Hanukah — but wary of all of the raw eggs and too impatient to tuck it away for anywhere from three weeks to a year to mellow flavor, milk punch seemed right up my alley.

Like all great drinks, it has an equally great history. Recipes for milk punch vary wildly. Some use superfine sugar, others use powdered sugar, which dissolves almost instantaneously. Milk Punch Adapted from Canal House, v.2 In a pitcher, whisk together milk, half-and-half, bourbon, sugar and vanilla. Easy Almond Day Almond Shake | The Family Kitchen. Almond Shake for Almond Day February 16th 2011 is National Almond Day, so I’m blending up my favorite Almond Shake.

World's Best Lime Fizz. I was served these wonderful fizzes for the first time about 5 years ago. My inlaws invited me over to celebrate my hubby's (then boyfriend's) birthday. They served BBQ Ribs (my hubs was always bragging up his Mom's ribs - they are delicious!)

And had these lime fizzes as the refreshment. They are wonderful! 2 cups sugar2 cups water5 medium limes Make a simple syrup of sugar, water & lime zest. (I found that by using a microplane zester, the flavor in the syrup is much stronger than if you use the zester that cuts long peels). To make fizzes: Pour lime syrup from above to make 1/4-1/3 of total drink volume.

The Pastry Affair - Home - Vanilla Pear Milk. Pears have always been one of my favorite fruits. Not only do they have an elegant shape, but they are juicy and charmingly sweet. Though, pears have a dark side. They can be temperamental, finicky, and are never perfectly ripe. I would argue that pears are one of the most elegant and graceful fruits until you bite into them. Whenever I bite into a ripe pear, a small explosion occurs. Finding a ripe pear is virtually impossible. Pears are like a rock, so you think, "I'll take them home and they'll ripen up," and you put them in a bowl, and they sit there going, "No! The pears are mush before you even saw it coming. This vanilla pear milk is light and sweet. Vanilla Pear Milk 1 large pear, halved and cored 1/2 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt 3/4 cup milk Dash of cinnamon Place the pear, yogurt, milk, and spices in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass, top with a cinnamon stick, and serve chilled!

Blueberries and Arugula? I like to mix it up with my morning breakfast smoothies and today I tried something new. It certainly pleases my palate and it might tickle your fancy too. This is a very simple smoothie - 1 cup light soy milk, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup water, 1 scoop of whey protein powder (unflavored) and a handful of fresh arugula. The greens are from my garden and are particularly peppery this time of year as the August sun starts to wane. The drink is remarkably good with a subtle hint of spicy arugula providing an undercurrent to the berries. Watermelon Lemonade. Fall is setting in and summer is almost left in the dust. I'm sure you can still find watermelons for a little while longer. This was a perfect quencher for the hot summer days, and it seems to be a nice drink for these hot fall days, as well. It's kinda weird, the weather. In the mornings when I leave for class, I find myself having to wear a hoodie or a sweater.

But as soon as it hits the afternoon, it's bloody darn hot outside! I'm not complaining though, because this is my favorite season. Fall is where the leaves change color (the perfect backdrop for any photo!). What about you guys? Ingredients: 1 medium sized watermelon, seeded and cut into cubes1 cup water2 lemons, seeded and juiced3 tablespoons powdered sugarice In a blender, combine all the ingredients, except for the ice. Fill a large pitcher with ice, about halfway. Serve in glasses and allow your thirst to be quenched while it's still decently hot outside! How easy is that? Aloha Smoothie. Avocado Shake (Sinh To Bo. Sinh tố bơ is a Vietnamese-style avocado milk shake. In Vietnamese, avocado is called trái bơ, which literally translates to "butter fruit".

The name is quite appropriate for this drink, which is sinfully rich. I take heart, no pun intended, in the fact that avocados are so nutritious and are loaded with the healthy kind of fat. Ingredients Yields: 6 servings 4 (Hass) avocados, ripe juice of half a lemon (optional)1 tablespoon honey (optional)1 quart ice cubes, crushed1-1/2 cups soy milk, as needed (depending on how you like the consistency of your shake)1 cup sweetened condensed milk, to taste Directions Peel the avocados and chop them into cubes. In a blender, combine all the ingredients until very smooth. Pour into 8 glasses. Enjoy! Tips I used Thanh Son soy milk to make sinh tố bơ authentic. Some people like to add coconut milk, but I prefer not to. I use Longevity Brand sweetened condensed milk. I use the Vitamix blender.

You can pair sinh tố bơ with a Vietnamese dessert. Honey Water Melon Juice Recipe. Honey Coconut Milk. Healthy, Fast Avocado & Pear Smoothie Recipe. Movie Night Hot Chocolate. The only memories of Hot Chocolate I have are of my grandmother making this delicious drink in her very old country kitchen. She still makes it every night, but her recipe is a little different than this one. Today my mom and I stayed home for a movie night. Soon after the movie started, the need for munchies kicked in. There was nothing sweet in the fridge except for some different kinds of chocolate, milk and marshmallows. Everything went into the same pot! To be exact about what went into the pot: Nutella, Chocolate Chips, Orange Chocolate Bar, Half & Half, Milk, Vanilla and Marshmallows. I tried to come up with the correct amounts for each ingredient, since I didn't really measure anything.

This recipe is enough for four people (about 3 cups). Ingredients: 2 tbsp Nutella 1/3 cup Chocolate Chips 4 ounces Orange Chocolate (orange flavored chocolate bar) 2 Marshmallows 1/2 cup Half and Half 1 1/2 cups Milk 1/2 tsp Vanilla Method: -Remove from heat and add the Vanilla. -Serve hot and enjoy! Frozen Hot Chocolate. If you've ever been to Second Cup (and yes, I am judging you if you've never been), you may or may not have come across or even tried their Frozen Hot Chocolate. Made from the perfect combination of chocolate, cream, and, oh yes, ice, this drink never fails to make me question why I'm not worthy of a simple existence in comparison. Every time I'm within a mile of a Second Cup, I have to sniff it out and buy this drink. It's creamy, chocolatey, and did I mention frozen? So, you can only imagine by extreme disbelief when I found a recipe for the drink on Dine & Dish.

Promise me one thing. Frozen Hot Chocolate Yield | 3 or 4 drinks Rating | 4/5 - Extremely easy and worth every second of time. Ingredients: 3 ounces white chocolate (however, I used semi-sweet chocolate) 2 tbsp. half and half cream (I used whipping cream and it still worked) 1 package of store bought hot chocolate 1 tbsp. white sugar 1 1/2 cups milk 3 cups of ice whipped cream (optional) chocolate shavings (optional) Directions: 1. 2. 3.

Let’s Lunch: Mango Lassi. Coconut Milk, Melon with Sago Dessert (椰汁蜜瓜西米) With cakes, cookies and puddings dominating our senses lately, I felt the need to move back to my Eastern origin and relived some of the food fond memories from my last visit to Chinatown in Sydney. Whenever I travel to nearby metropolitan cities (it would be Sydney for now), a must visit place for me is Chinatown. Like many, my must dos in Chinatown are, of course eat, eat and eat. What else right? Okay, okay, maybe not all eat and nothing-else, there’s grocery shopping – just to bring a little Chinatown back to where I lived. Let’s move on to my must eats – definitely Asian desserts besides Mamak (in Sydney) and Spicy Fish (in Melbourne). Since I have no travel plan in the works at the same time longing a light dose of Chinatown (perhaps an early symptom of homesickness?)

That said, I’m glad that I’ve attempted the recipe and I can confidently said that it won’t be my last too. (tweaked slightly from House of Annie) Makes about 5 cups Ingredients: Method: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. A possible shorcut? Hot chocolate. There’s nothing wrong with Swiss Miss. I grew up on the stuff. I have two boxes stashed in my desk at work. But let me show you something. INGREDIENTS: Sugar, corn syrup, modified whey cocoa (processed with alkali), hydrogenated coconut oil, nonfat milk, calcium carbonate, less than 2% of: salt, dipotassium phosphate, mono- and diglycerides, artificial flavor, carrageenan.

Sure, I expected to read, “chocolate, sugar,” full stop, but I’ve seen worse. It turns out that processing cocoa with a base like alkali is the difference between regular cocoa and Dutch cocoa: it turns regular cocoa sweeter and darker in color and makes it easier to dissolve, and when that happens, it becomes Dutch cocoa. I know, right? And maybe that’s not such a big deal, but at that point I was intrigued, so I went back for more. I recognized the next few ingredients so I skimmed past them. Apparently. Okay, so upon actual investigation, it appeared that calcium carbonate is pretty much okay to eat. Moving on. Avocado-Banana Smoothie. I studied abroad in Fez, Morocco during the summer after my freshman year in college.

The thermometer frequently read above 100 degrees F and I looked for respite in air-conditioned cafes and restaurants. To enter the old city, of Fez, Morocco, you enter through a Bab, which means door, or gate. Bab Boujeloud, the blue gate, is the most majestic of all. It’s scrawled with indecipherable calligraphy, beckoning you into the spiders-web of the medina.

Next to Bab Boujeloud stands a rickety structure. I wanted a light drink to greet the evening with and chose an avocado milkshake. Marcus’ version is pudding-like, and though you might expect something savory, because of the avocado and salt, the flavors are nuanced and sophisticated.
