Hot chocolate, warm clothes, and wrapped presents under a tree, ‘tis once again the season to be jolly! We are familiar enough with the holidays as they are now; but what might Christmas be like in 50 years? Of course, it's impossible to predict with 100% accuracy how life will change in the next half century; however, if we track exponentially-advancing technologies, and then add a few creative possibilities, we can project a plausible scenario of what it might be like to experience the futuristic world of 2061. Global MONITOR’s analysis is underpinned by a survey of 27,000 respondents in 21 markets, and its research underpins much of thinking about social, cultural, and consumer change. Over the next few weeks we’ll be running a series of blog posts on themes from this research. One of the most important themes of Global MONITOR 2011 is about consumer volatility. ATLANTA: Coca-Cola, the soft drinks giant, believes several major trends offer room for optimism and growth, despite the challenging economic climate. Speaking on a conference call , Muhter Kent, Coca-Cola's chief executive, outlined its positive outlook. "The last few months have reinforced our belief in the resilience of the global consumer," he said. Kent reported the firm's tracking of sales, the movement of shoppers between retail channels and out-of-home dining showed its goal of doubling revenues by 2020 was viable. "What we've seen this past quarter is that across the world, non-alcoholic beverages continue to generate increasing demand," said Kent.
