Performance Improvement Journal (PIJ)

Pershing, CPT, PhD, is professor emeritus in the School of Education, Indiana University (IU) and chief operating officer of Education and Management Research Associates, Bloomington, Indiana. As an emeritus faculty member at IU, Jim is in the Department of Instructional Systems Technology and works closely with the Workplace Learning and Performance Improvement program. During his tenure at IU, he has made contributions to the definition, communication, and demonstration of HPT. Jim has researched, published, and promoted HPT widely and has mentored ISPI members, both within his university role and outside of it.

Some of his most significant academic and professional contributions have come through his tutelage and mentoring of over 300 master’s or doctoral students. Jim was recognized in 2008 as an ISPI member who made significant outstanding contributions to the field of HPT and the Society with the Honorary Life Member Award. The Research Section assigns highest priority in reviewing manuscripts to rigorous original quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods studies on topics relating to applications of technology or instructional design in educational settings. In addition, most issues include a biographical study of a significant figure in the history of the field of educational technology, edited by Tom Reeves.
