Alternative Process: Cyanotypes By Amanda Tarlau Cyanotypes are another type of "Sunprint" in that the final image appears only with the aid of ultra-violet, or sun, light. The colours can range in their final metamorphose from pale to deep blue tones and everything in between. As with Van Dyke printing, the properly exposed and processed print will be permanent and archivally sound. Originally, Cyanotypes (called "ferro prussiate") were used in conjunction with scientific recordings of mathematical tables, a diverse range of plant specimens and architectural structures.

The Chemistry Cyanotype processing involves two stock solutions which need to be kept separate from eachother in dark glass bottles until required for coating. OK! STOCK SOLUTION A: Ferric ammounium citrate 90g distilled water 8 fl oz (124ml) Adjust water temperature to 75 degrees F (23.8C). STOCK SOLUTION B: Potassium Ferricyanide 50g distilled water 8 fl oz (124ml) Adjust water temperature to 75 degrees F (23.8C).

Burdette, photographer · photography@WilliamBurdette.net My current work extends the split second photographic moment over the length of many days. Pointing a modified aerial bombsight out my apartment window, I expose architectural blue print paper. With the resulting cyanotype negative, I digitize it, invert the light values and make a positive print. I look for the beauty that hides between the abstract and the concrete. Photography provides me the means for refining my search for that place and fixing the light, making it available to be revisited, reinterpreted and re-expressed.

My artistic origins are in sound. Looking to expand into the visual realm, I studied photography with Jeanette Buffington-Weiser and Stephen DiRado at Clark University. Lith Printing. Lith printing is a technique in which conventional black and white paper is heavily over exposed and then developed in very dilute, high contrast lith developer. I first tried Lith printing a couple of years ago. It is almost impossible to reproduce a print exactly and it is more time consuming than conventional printing.

You can often end up wasting more paper too. However, the effects obtained can be stunning and are well worth the effort. The Lith Printing Process Lith printing is fairly straightforward. Development progresses very slowly to begin with but then speeds up rapidly. Forget the darkroom timer during development. The stop bath, fixing, washing and drying stages are no different to conventional printing. Depending upon the paper chosen, Lith development produces prints with a range of different colours. Lith prints respond well to toning - particularly when split toned in selenium and gold.

Lith printing works well with infra-red negatives. Lith Developer Solution A. Darryl J. Asher Online Gallery. JACQUELINE & JEAN-LOUIS GIUDICELLI. TIM SAGER-STEREO PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHS-RUSTBELT. Mathias - Platinum Palladium Photography. The Platino-Palladiotype Process. The following method of printing in platinum, palladium, or a mixture of both metals, has been evolved to overcome the difficulties and disadvantages of the traditional platinotype. Newcomers are strongly advised to begin with palladium alone - even though it is at present as expensive as platinum: palladium more readily gives a finer image on a wider range of papers. Its permanence is, for all practical purposes, hardly less than that of platinum. This method is a printing-out process, unlike traditional platinotype which requires development.

The sensitized paper acquires a controlled degree of humidity, which allows formation of the platinum-palladium image during the exposure - a process that can easily be monitored, making test-strips unnecessary. For those who have no experience of Iron printing please check out the first article in this series that explains what you need and how to prepare for the processing.
