Friday, 17 July 2009 A mix of 22 international breeders exhibited at this year's Flower Trials in the Netherlands. Gavin McEwan reports from Aalsmeer and Peter Seabrook rounds up the Westland exhibitors. The June Flower Trials in the Westland and Aalsmeer regions of Holland are establishing themselves as Europe's premier vehicle for launching new bedding and pot plant varieties, and marketing initiatives.

The June trials also serve to test the market reaction to varieties and concepts still in development. This year, a total of 22 breeders featured in the official Flower Trials programme, including UK-based Floranova. A number of Dutch nurseries chose the same period to run open days, while eight breeders in Germany ran their own "Euro-Trials" at the same time. Participants in the Aalsmeer trials were: Ball; Danziger "Dan" Flower Farms/Imperial Plants; Florist de Kwakel BV; HilverdaKooij BV; mKoppe BV; Moerheim New Plant; and Royal Van Zanten.
