College Pages - Academics. Beyond the Classroom Sometimes, traditional academic programs overlook the fact that learning is essentially experiential.
Our hands-on approach, combined with our small class sizes, means that at Unity field work is the rule rather than the exception. On any given day, your classroom might be a whale-watching expedition, an animal shelter, a hunter check station, or the top of a mountain. Your lab time might include farming, camping, animal handling, ropes work, building, rock climbing, first aid, or any number of other activities. In addition, our core Environmental Citizen Curriculum connects all students and degree tracks together with a science-based liberal arts foundation.
Surpassing “Sustainable” It seems that everything is “sustainable” these days. Overuse of the word has made it seem vague and meaningless. Our Solutions-Focused Framework: Sustainability Science Sustainability science focuses on the critical question of how we should use earth’s limited resources. Zoo Technology Program. Santa Fe College’s Zoo Animal Technology Program is the premier wild animal technology program in the United States.
To facilitate the training of animal professionals, Santa Fe College (SF) has its own fully operating zoo, the SF Teaching Zoo, which is located on SF’s Northwest campus. It has been in existence since 1970 and at its current location on the Northwest Campus since 1972. Set in a naturally wooded environment, the 10 acre Teaching Zoo is a fully functioning zoo with a diverse collection of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Supervised by the professional staff of the Teaching Zoo, the students get hands-on experience in every aspect of wild animal care, from daily care, habitat construction, zoo maintenance to working with the public. The zoo is open to the public seven days a week and is visited by over 50,000 guests each year.

Have you been intrigued by the amazing performance of dolphins and killer whales in oceanariums? Do you want to help save wild animals from the threat of extinction? Do you want to teach others to love animals as much as you do?
If your answer is yes to any of the above questions, then you might consider a major in zoo keeping, animal training, or wildlife education. A number of colleges in the US offer programs to help students turn these dreams into reality by training them for the fascinating and growing fields of animal care and training. In North America alone, more people visit zoos and aquariums each year than attend all professional sporting events combined. One of the most comprehensive programs of this type is the Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) Program located at Moorpark College, one of the Community Colleges of Ventura County in Southern California.
Authors Mr. Photographs Provided by: Mr. Animal Management (Behaviour and Welfare / Zoo Management) Work based learning is an important element of the programme and modules are designed so that you are given credit for knowledge and skills developed and used within your place of work or via work experience.
The captive animal management industry is rapidly developing from a low-grade, largely manual sector into a service industry meeting the broad demands of the animal owning/interested public. This programme is designed to equip you with the skills and understanding to progress within this industry and to bring scientific knowledge and principles into this rapidly modernising sector. Why study Animal Management at Reaseheath College? Unfortunately animals can't talk to us, so we have to learn to read their behaviour to understand their needs, and we have to apply the findings of science to provide for their welfare. This requires practical experience as well as academic understanding, which in traditional degree programmes is hard to achieve. National Student Exchange - Welcome to NSE!
