Bud Norris, targeted for five innings, lasted only three bumpy ones in the Astros’ 6-3 loss to the Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Norris threw just 39 of his 73 pitches for strikes, and when he did come into the zone, the Yankees still made him pay – most notably Robinson Cano’s getting to 0-2 and smashing a home run to right field to give New York a 5-0 lead.

Brandon Barnes , 25, OF and Jonathan Singleton , 20, 1B, Corpus Christi. Barnes and Singleton were the key ingredients as the Hooks won the first six games of the week at Whataburger Field. Barnes ended the week 9 for 22 with four doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI. Singleton finished up 12 for 26 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and eight RBI. Once again this week, the surplus of good performances compel me to put the selection of the fifth spot in the hands of the Farmstros Village.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the theater, an announcement: Playing the role of Albert Pujols tonight will be Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. And playing the role of Brad Lidge will be Houston Astros reliever Fernando Abad. Please unwrap your candies, turn off your cell phones and prepare for lift off.” Tulowitzki went 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBI in Colorado’s 5-3 opening day victory over Houston on Friday. And by turning in that highlight above, I think we’re all officially over being worried about him being plunked on the elbow by Ubaldo Jimenez. http://www.astroshomeplate.com/

The first month of the season is in the books and the improvement in the farm system is already evident. Let's look at some interesting early numbers. Scott is hitting .397/.519/.714 with 12 doubles, two home runs, 15 runs scored, and 21 runs batted in through 23 games with 13 walks and 14 strikeouts. He's spent most of the season splitting time with Brett Wallace at third base, but he's also seen time at first and second and he's yet to commit an error at any position. http://www.astroscounty.com/

The Crawfish Boxes - For Houston Astros Fans

I just wrote a pretty lengthy story for my newspaper about all those statements, including the home runs, the pitching and the crazy, tackling rundown by Brett Myers to end things. I thought about just re-printing that here, but I'll touch on something else quickly. (P.S. Myers and Snyder both joked that he basically tackled Andrus. Which is exactly what looked like happened.)
