Tabelle. Facebook Gets Into Local Search With "Facebook Nearby" For iOS & Android. As of today, you can count Facebook as a potentially significant new competitor in local search — on mobile devices.
The company is updating the “Nearby” feature in its iOS and Android apps Nearby Becomes Local Search Tool Previously Nearby was about finding where your friends had checked-in. After the app update Nearby will still show you where your friends have checked-in. But now, more importantly, it will also show you nearby businesses and other places ranked by various criteria. You’ll be able to search or browse in the new UI to find local businesses by name or by category. Results will be ranked according to a number of criteria: star ratings, check-ins, Likes and recommendations. Ratings will be on a five-point scale (image above). If You Don’t Have a Page, You Won’t Show Up Facebook is only relying on its own data and only showing places where there are associated Pages (with locations) in its database.
I haven’t used the new Nearby yet. Local Data Coverage and Ads. Making Advertising Work In A Responsive World. Advertisement Advertising has always had an uneasy relationship with the media because of ethical considerations on both sides of the printing press.
On the one hand, journalists are reluctant, quite rightly, to be seen as under the thumb of an advertiser, and on the other side, advertisers don’t want to be seen to be enforcing their views on the free press. The relationship between the media and marketeers is the greatest sham marriage of all time: convenience, rarely love. We need each other. Writers need to be paid, and people making products need to be paid too. The invention of the Web and the democratization of the publishing process have meant that audiences and readerships have become dispersed. That caused publishers to drive down the price of ads, pack their websites full of bells and whistles and generally devalue their content. Of course, it’s not all bad news… just mostly bad news. Mobile Advertising Is Big Business. Google Launches Promotions On Google Shopping, Enables Distribution To Google Offers & Maps On Android.
Amid the flurry of prematurely posted Google earnings and Chromebook launches, Google also announced a new feature for merchants today: promotions.
These promotions can be added to retailers’ product listings in the now pay-for-play search vertical Google Shopping, as well as distributed via Google Offers and Google Maps on Android. Like their offline counterpart, the online promotions are meant to encourage traffic to a retailer’s store, and make them stand out from the competition because of their sale, discount, time-sensitive offer, freebie, or whatever else the retailer wants to tout to its potential customers. But the service doesn’t only target e-commerce shopping partners who are paid advertisers featured on Google Shopping.
It can also drive real-world foot traffic to brick-and-mortar stores thanks to the mobile integrations. Mobile-friendly sites turn visitors into customers.
