The program is open to rising, sophomores , juniors and seniors. The program intends to provide students the opportunity to get involved in hands-on engineering research under the supervision of a faculty member. Topics of research include all areas covered by the departments in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The students will receive a stipend of $4,500 for a 10 week period. Students are encouraged to seek out a faculty member who is willing to act as the research advisor. A letter of support from the potential mentor and as well as letter from another faculty member is required as part of the application process.
Internship | Penn Genome Frontiers Institute. The Penn Genome Frontiers Institute’s internship program provides a unique training experience intended to stimulate multidisciplinary, creative thinking and research innovation early in a student’s academic career. Following two weeks of basic training in molecular biology and genomics techniques, interns will tackle genomics-based problems that have been specially selected by a PGFI faculty member. These projects require students to pursue novel, self-directed research in the PGFI Educational Facility laboratory, under the direct supervision of PGFI staff scientist, Dr. Adam Peritz. Students will interact regularly with a faculty member and graduate student and/or postdoctoral mentors for guidance on the scientific approach for their projects. Outside of the laboratory, interns participate in paper discussions, attend seminars, and learn basic bioinformatics skills. Penn Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases: Undergraduate Student Scholars Program. Thank you for your interest in the Undergraduate Student Scholars Program in the NIH Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania, an organized program of summer lectures and presentations combined with basic research experience in the laboratory of an expert investigator. This program is open to students from the University of Pennsylvania as well as outside of the university, and the curriculum is designed specifically for undergraduate students with an interest in biomedical research, with the eventual goal of MD, PhD, or MD-PhD degrees.
Applications from women and members of underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged. During the program, students attend weekly seminars on introductory topics in biomedical research. Overview and Goals of the MTR: The University of Pennsylvania Masters of Translational Research (MTR) program provides its students with in-depth instruction in the fundamental skills, methodology and principles necessary to become a translational investigator.
The program is designed to meet these objectives through the provision of didactic course work, a formal mentorship program, formal laboratory training, and specific ongoing guidance with hands-on exposure to protocol and grant development. Students enter the MTR from The Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine and Nursing to pursue a MD/MTR, PhD/MTR, DMD/MTR or VMD/MTR with a focus on translational research. The majority of these students, who complete the MTR during a post-residency clinical Fellowship or as junior faculty, are interested in careers at the interface between basic and clinical research.
MTR graduates develop a strong foundation in the fundamental techniques of translational research.
