January 2010 Rock is described in terms of mineral composition and texture or geometry (the shape, size and arrangement of grains within the rock). Rock on a larger scale also has naturally occurring joints or fractures whose propagation can lead to failure of a rock mass. So fracture propagation in rock masses is a critical problem that can impact many natural features and engineering applications: rock slopes, tunneling, loading of rock mass with large structures, and others. But the mechanisms of rock fracture propagation are not fully understood.

Der Schwerpunkt des Verlagsprogramms liegt seit der Unternehmensgründung auf den Themen Wissenschaft und Technologie.
