In this article we'll look at SBS 2011 Standard (beta1) and see how it's positioned in the market compared to other offerings from both Microsoft and its competitors. More efficient handsets with faster data speeds are enabling VoIP on mobile networks, and WiFi is becoming capable of voice carriage, which will enable third parties to start offering mobile VoIP services. Juniper Research defines mobile VoIP as the carriage of voice traffic over mobile networks using the internet protocol (IP) usually via an enabling technology called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). Mobile VoIP differs from circuit switched mobile telephony in that an end-to-end connection between two carriers does not need to be established.

With VoIP, in simple terms, the voice call is fragmented into packets at the call initiators end, transferred over the internet, and reassembled at the call destination. By 2012, there will be significant uptake of mobile VoIP.

Ironically, however, through 2011 this debate will actually serve to help organizations better understand and therefore position cloud‐based approaches relative to existing IT initiatives. As IT (and many business) decision makers educate themselves on the distinction between internal versus external service deployments, and between dedicated and shared access, they will better understand how the various cloud approaches compare with other, existing approaches within their organizations.

This analysis is fair and accurate, and is congruent with what we’ve been seeing in the enterprise tech space. This year, more telcos are also expected to ramp up their cloud computing offerings. Microsoft growing SharePoint by 20,000 users daily - Microsoft. When TNW sat down with a member of the SharePoint team in January, details about how the product was doing were hard to come by.

The team is well coached to stay mum, even after being subjected to my intensive (ha) inquiries. But today the product group opened up, revealing that Microsoft is currently adding some 20,000 users a day to the platform, surely growing what is already a cash cow for the company. If you run the daily number out for 365 days, Microsoft is adding some 7.3 million users yearly to the popular business application. The last time that we checked into SharePoint was when the first service pack for SharePoint 2010 was released. What is SharePoint? SharePoint enjoys the distinction of being a popular product with both employers and employees, with a great number of SharePoint groups and meetups in existence across the US where power users come together and exchange best-use tips.
