We are a non-profit distributing organisation whose aim is to help develop a vigorous, healthy and environmentally responsible beekeeping industry in Wales. We also provide beekeeping education and training at Bangor University’s Henfaes Research Farm in Abergwyngregyn and next year plan to have Queen bee mating in the bee-friendly garden initiative at Ty Hyll, better known as The Ugly House near Betws-y-Coed. The association serves to support the local beekeeping community and provides a focus of interest for anyone interested in beekeeping. The metropolitan borough covers 329 sq Km and has a wide range of habitats in which bees are kept. The association’s members keep their bees in all these areas including high moorland, grazing land on the Pennine slopes, through to the main areas of arable cropping land with favourite crops such as rape seed, borage and field beans, but plenty more wild flowers besides. Une démarche de pionnier dès 1992 Le réseau Biodiversité pour les abeilles rassemble des apiculteurs, des agriculteurs et des organisations professionnelles. Il est soutenu par des entreprises du secteur. Il a été initié à partir de l’expérience de Philippe Lecompte, apiculteur bio qui a lancé les premières jachères apicoles sur la Montagne de Reims dès 1992. A cette époque, le gel des terres est mis en place dans le cadre de la Politique Agricole Commune, Philippe Lecompte va chercher à exploiter ces hectares inutilisés pour des bénéfices environnementaux. En mettant en place la première jachère mellifères, il a déjà conscience que l’amélioration de la diversité florale est une condition essentielle du repeuplement des colonies d’abeilles.
Il constate maintenant un meilleur équilibre nutritionnel de ses abeilles et une hausse de production de miel dans ses 400 ruches. Comment fonctionne le Réseau ?
