Which One Of These Images Is A Photo, And Which Is A 3D Render? As a 3D artist myself, I have started to think that 3D artist give away their attempt at reality in the eyes. Not because of the, what some have called, a philosophical "soul" theory, but rather what I think of as just simple refraction. We, as artists, often times find a simpler way of doing something. To create a realistic eye in 3D, you actually attempt to build it the same way an actual eye is constructed. First start with a sphere, (the outer skin of the eye, rather the opaque almost transparent part of the eye) then, create another sphere slightly smaller on the inside, create an indent for the iris, and a small hole for the pupil.

Now, all of this is correct. But when you actually look at the anatomy of an eyeball, the iris consists of what is called fibrovascular tissue, what you could almost call tiny strands, tendrils like hairs. Sigma 60mm f2.8 DN Art Lens for Nex 7 Portraiture | Photocine News. My friends at Sigma hooked me up with one of the first samples of their new 60mm f/2.8 DN Art Lens in Sony E mount for the Nex 7.

With the lens in hand on Friday I called Lauren who occasionally models for the photo classes I produce at Samy’s Camera and we were able to schedule a 2 hour test session at my downtown loft for Saturday. I’ve been anxiously waiting for this lens because 60mm on APS-C sensors is a nice telephoto focal length which translates to a 90mm full frame equivalent. I really like the SEL 50mm 1.8 but find myself wishing for a little more compression when shooting portraits. The Sigma 60 should fit the bill nicely. I know there are those who will criticize this lens for “only” being an f/2.8 but with a telephoto field of view, f/2.8 is plenty fast enough to blur the background.

Here’s a shot of Lauren at ISO 800 f/2.8 @ 1/400 sec, Aperture Priority, AWB and hand held. Lauren Shot on Sigma 60mm DN at ISO 800 f/2.8, 1/400, AWB, hand held. Sound Made Visible. The generic term for the patterns of vibration that occur on the surface of an object when excited by an incident sound is ‘modal phenomena,’ a field of study that covers everything from vibrations in suspension bridges, to vibrations in body parts of cars, to the effects of sound on the human skeleton and internal organs. In the 1970’s this branch of science was named ‘cymatics’ by Swiss doctor Hans Jenny, a word that derives from the Greek ‘kyma,’ meaning ‘wave’ and the inspiration for the name of our CymaScope instrument. The classical view of modal phenomena is that modal patterns form as a consequence of the natural resonant frequencies, or modes, of the object or membrane; current mathematical techniques used to describe this class of phenomena say nothing about the quality of the exciting sound. Musical sounds contain many harmonics so when a circular membrane is excited by a complex musical sound the resulting modal pattern(s) are, naturally, also complex.

The Engraved Hourglass Nebula (also known as MyCn 18) is a young planetary nebula situated in the southern constellation Musca about 8,000 light-years away from Earth. It was discovered by Annie Jump Cannon and Margaret W. Mayall during their work on an extended Henry Draper Catalogue (the catalogue was built between 1918 and 1924). At the time, it was designated simply as a small faint planetary nebula. Much improved telescopes and imaging techniques allowed the hourglass shape of the nebula to be discovered by Raghvendra Sahai and John Trauger of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on January 18, 1996. It is conjectured that MyCn 18's hourglass shape is produced by the expansion of a fast stellar wind within a slowly expanding cloud which is denser near its equator than its poles.

The formation of the shape of the inner "eye" is not yet fully understood. The Hourglass Nebula was photographed by the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 of the Hubble Space Telescope. An experiental 3D-animation from my image of NGC 6752 I have tested a new method to publish my 3D-images as a form of Lenticular prints. For this technique to work, I need series of images from different angles, in this case 24 images are needed.

Lenticular printing is actually an old technique but in past few years it has become much more sophisticated. The results can be stunning visually, image plane disappears and object floats in and outside of the frame. Since astronomical objects are too far away, no real parallax can be imaged. Doe to that, I have developed a method to turn my images to a various 3D-formats.

My work flow is based on scientific data from the object, distance and the source of ionization are usually known. NOTE! Mirrors - JDSU (Photonics Handbook | Optical Materials & Coatings) A mirror is an important element in many optical systems. Its basic function is to redirect light, often with the purpose of making an optical system more compact. This article discusses the kinds of thin-film coatings that can be used for mirrors. The choice of coating depends on the application, including the spectral range of interest, the optical wavefront quality desired and the cost limitations. The basic difference between the household mirror and the optical mirror is that one is coated on the back surface and the other is coated on the front.

For optical applications, a front-surface mirror must be used. This means that the reflective surface is subject to environmental degradation, even though it is usually in an enclosed environment and not exposed to the harsh conditions of the household mirror. A mirror’s substrate surface should be flat and smooth. For some applications, a mirror’s ability to conduct heat is important. Metal mirror coatings Figure 1.

The Phaistos Disc (also spelled Phaistos Disk, Phaestos Disc) is a disk of fired clay from the Minoan palace of Phaistos on the Greek island of Crete, possibly dating to the middle or late Minoan Bronze Age (2nd millennium BC). It is about 15 cm (5.9 in) in diameter and covered on both sides with a spiral of stamped symbols. Its purpose and meaning, and even its original geographical place of manufacture, remain disputed, making it one of the most famous mysteries of archaeology. This unique object is now on display at the archaeological museum of Heraklion. The disc was discovered in 1908 by the Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier in the Minoan palace-site of Phaistos, and features 241 tokens, comprising 45 unique signs, which were apparently made by pressing hieroglyphic "seals" into a disc of soft clay, in a clockwise sequence spiraling toward the disc's center.
