To create a realistic eye in 3D, you actually attempt to build it the same way an actual eye is constructed. First start with a sphere, (the outer skin of the eye, rather the opaque almost transparent part of the eye) then, create another sphere slightly smaller on the inside, create an indent for the iris, and a small hole for the pupil.
