CS - COT. BCIT Computing offers the Computer Systems Certificate (CSC) to provide students with a solid foundation in Information Technology (IT). The focus of this credential is software development via multiple object oriented programming languages, Java, C and C++ plus computer architecture, relational database design and website development. Students also learn skills in business, communication and mathematics plus they may choose 3 credits from the CST/PTS Diploma electives including advanced courses in database, web and mobile development. The CSC is roughly equivalent to the first year of the full-time CST Diploma and is built on top of "Applied Software Development (ASD)"1 and "Applied Computer Information Systems (ACIS)2". Complete both of the ASD and ACIS Associate Certificates prior to declaring the CSC. Please use the CSC electives in the ASD and ACIS for faster completion. The CSC was not designed to be completed in a full-time delivery model.

ACIS - PT. Learn computer information systems (CIS) foundations and how these technologies are used and managed in a business environment. This program is aimed at two audiences; individuals currently working in information systems with no formal credentials and those interested in a CIS foundation before moving on to higher education in computing. This hands-on credential is the second step in laddering toward the Computer Systems Technology Diploma1 (CST/PTS). If your end goal is the Diploma, then you should complete Applied Software Development2 (ASD) before starting this credential. Start by learning to be an expert end-user of a personal computer, then become proficient in typical office applications, followed by an in-depth understanding of relational database design and data modeling. A wide variety of electives are offered to suit individual interests including: accounting software, IT project management, object oriented programming and web development.

Applied Software Development, ASD is aimed at three audiences: Students who want to learn programming. Existing programmers who want object oriented experience. Candidates for advanced programming credentials, and the CST Diploma. The ASD is the specific prerequisite for our three advanced follow-on software development programs: The ASD is the first step in credential laddering in Part-Time Studies. It may be taken concurrently with the Applied Computer Information Systems, ACIS Associate Certificate for those working toward the CST/PTS Diploma4. Successful completion of the ASD credential program provides skills in systems analysis, requirements gathering, documentation, communication and presentations. Participants will also practice group work and learn to use multiple programming object oriented languages to industry standards.

Graduates of the ASD will be able to create software applications and be prepared move on to higher level programming courses. ASD - Course Req.
