Standards of Learning (SOL) & Testing Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) – Adopted 2009 The Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework comprise the mathematics content that teachers in Virginia are expected to teach and students are expected to learn. The fifth-grade standards place emphasis on number sense with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. This focus includes concepts of prime and composite numbers, identifying even and odd numbers, and solving problems using order of operations for positive whole numbers.
