Today we’re talking to Frank Yoo, director of product design at Lyft. Frank Yoo is director of product design at Lyft, a peer-to-peer transportation community available in 66 U.S. cities and known for the distinctive pink mustache that adorns all of its cars.

The San Francisco-based company is definitely in growth-mode, and on his LinkedIn page, Frank says he’s looking for designers to add to his current three-person crew. Here’s Frank’s take on everything from his days starting out at Yahoo! To Lyft’s secret “library”: How did you get your start in design and end up at Lyft? My career in web and mobile design started in earnest at Yahoo! Can you tell me a little bit about your team?

Founded in 2009, Trunk Club offers members a personal stylist who chooses awesome clothes, responds to feedback and ships a trunk filled with returnable options right to a guy’s home or office.

With over 40,000 customers and 350 employees, the Chicago-based Trunk Club has a 30-person tech team working on internal and external tools, including six product designers and one graphic designer. Here’s what Kim had to say: How did you arrive at your role at Trunk Club? I went to school for graphic design and photography, but I never really thought about UX until after college.

At Hubspot we make software for professional marketers - an entire platform used to manage content publishing through a variety of channels. I manage the UX team here with seven designers as well as two usability specialists and two documentation/copywriting specialists. We work side by side with the product teams to design the user interface of the Hubspot products. How did you get into design and what was your path into your current role? I have a computer science degree, but realized development wasn't for me. What wider industry trends are changing the nature of the designer role?
