DIY Rosewater Spray. While summer spritzers used to be reserved for the ubiquitous Evian bottle, refreshing water mists now come in a variety of scents heeding a multitude of benefits. The most popular face and body spray would have to be that of rosewater because of it’s cleansing, hydrating and anti-aging properties. Once upon a time, Cleopatra would douse her face in rosewater to keep her complexion flawless while ancient Romans would bathe in this exceptional essence of rose. So this week, with our trusty beauty expert Sarah Howard of Beauty Banter, we’ll take you through the simple steps of making your very own rosewater for a refreshing and fragrant cool down this summer. You’ll need: Start by plucking the petals off all the roses. The more fragrant the roses are the more fragrant the rosewater will be. Place the stock pot on top of a stove and put the brick inside the pot. Pour distilled water into the pot until half of the brick is submerged in water. Invert the lid and turn the stove on high.

Die Idee Kräutersalz selber zu machen, kam von einer Arbeitskollegin und das passende Rezept dazu hatte ich bereits zu Hause liegen. Mir fehlte nur seit Wochen die Zeit und auch das entsprechende Werkzeug dazu. Das Tolle, es gibt hier um die Ecke einen kleinen, unscheinbaren An- und Verkaufs Laden: “ZwischenDinge”. Dieser wird von einem sehr netten Ehepaar betrieben, welches auf ihren Reisen Dinge kauft, und diese im Laden wieder verkauft. Nun stand vor ein paar Tagen ein Wiegemesser (aus Dänemark) im Schaufenster und ich musste es kaufen. Hier die Umsetzung der Idee: Für viele kleine Gläser benötigt man einen Korb voller Bio-Kräuter, z.B. je zwei Töpfe Petersilie und Schnittlauch, sowie je einen Topf Liebstöckel, Kerbel, Thymian und Estragon, dazu noch 2 kg grobkörniges Meersalz. Alles was an Kräutern vorhanden ist, wird mit dem Wiegemesser freudig klein geschnitten und in eine sehr große Schüssel gegeben.
Das Kräutersalz ist fertig und kann in die kleinen Gläser abgefüllt werden. Sprossenglas. Hanna aus Wien verwendet leere Einmachgläser um Sprossen aufzuziehen. Hier gibt es noch genauere Informationen, wie man welche Sprossen richtig aufzieht. Hanna schreibt: “Sprossen sind wahnsinnig gesund, außerdem schmecken sie gut und sind vielseitig verwendbar. Die Materialien: Einmachglas ohne Deckel, ein Stück Strumpfhose, ein Gummiringerl, Wasser, Samen (hier Hanfsamen und Amaranth oder auch Alfalfa, Bohnen, Erbsen, Broccoli, Kohl, Getreide, Buchweizen, Quinoa, Sesam, Sonnenblumenkerne, Kürbiskerne usw.)
Und so gehts: Man gibt die Samen ins Glas und gibt Wasser dazu. Danach gießt man das Wasser ab (ich upcycle es indem ich damit Blumen gieße, es hat nämlich Nährstoffe). Je nach Sorte ist es sehr unterschiedlich wie oft man diesen Zyklus wiederholt. Wenn man die Sprossen aufbewahren will, gibt man sie einfach in einer Schüssel oder einem Pastiksackerl in den Kühlschrank. Ice cream charms.
