Béla Bartók. Béla Viktor János Bartók (/ˈbɑrtɒk/; Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈbeːlɒ ˈbɒrtoːk]; March 25, 1881 – September 26, 1945) was a Hungarian composer and pianist.
He is considered one of the most important composers of the 20th century; he and Liszt are regarded as Hungary's greatest composers (Gillies 2001). Through his collection and analytical study of folk music, he was one of the founders of comparative musicology, which later became ethnomusicology. Biography[edit] Childhood and early years (1881–98)[edit] Béla Bartók was born in the small Banatian town of Nagyszentmiklós in the Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary (since 1920 Sânnicolau Mare, Romania) on March 25, 1881. Béla displayed notable musical talent very early in life: according to his mother, he could distinguish between different dance rhythms that she played on the piano before he learned to speak in complete sentences (Gillies 1990, 6). Claude Debussy Biography - life, family, children, wife, school, son, information, born, time, year. Born: August 22, 1862 St-Germain-en-Laye, France Died: March 25, 1918 Paris, France French composer The French composer (writer and arranger of music) Claude Debussy developed a strongly individual style and went against the methods of classical composing by using uncommon arrangements that created a new language of sound.
Early life Achille Claude Debussy was born on August 22, 1862, in St-Germain-en-Laye, France. He was the oldest of five children. His father, Manuel-Achille Debussy, ran a china shop and had a hard time making ends meet. Claude Debussy. AP/Wide World Photos hired Debussy to teach her children piano. Different musical influences In 1884 Debussy won the Prix de Rome, a competition for composers, for his cantata (a poem set to music) The Prodigal Son. Debussy was also strongly affected by the Javanese gamelan, which he saw performed at the Paris World Exposition of 1889. Mature period Later years Debussy's pieces of the following years show certain changes in style.
His father, a government clerk, died three months after his birth. He was raised by his mother, Clémence, with the assistance of her aunt, Charlotte Masson, who moved in. Masson introduced Saint-Saëns to the piano, and began giving him lessons on the instrument. In the late 1840s, Saint-Saëns entered the Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied organ and composition, the latter under Fromental Halévy. Middle years[edit] Saint-Saëns early in his career. From 1861 to 1865, Saint-Saëns held his only teaching position as professor of piano at the École Niedermeyer, where he raised eyebrows by including contemporary music — Liszt, Gounod, Schumann, Berlioz, and Wagner — along with the school's otherwise conservative curriculum of Bach and Mozart.
Saint-Saëns was a multi-faceted intellectual. In 1875, nearing forty, Saint-Saëns married Marie Laure Emile Truffot, who was just 19.
