Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival | Sunday 21st May 2017. Treforest 10k - Sunday 28th May 2017. Bridgend 5k | Race for Life - Sunday 4th June 2017. Man v Horse - Saturday 10th June 2017. Whole Earth Man v Horse A Wonder-fuel Challenge The event began in June 1980 following a chat over a pint (or three) in the back bar of the Neuadd Arms Hotel. The then Landlord, Gordon Green, overheard two men discussing the relative merits of men and horses running over mountainous terrain. The enterprising Gordon, never one to miss an opportunity to promote Llanwrtyd Wells and improve business at his hotel, decided to put it to the test. The course was changed in 1982 to provide a more even match between the man and the horse, resulting year on year in very close finishes - sometimes with the horse winning by only a few seconds. 2014 saw the introduction of electronic timing, with each competitor wearing a tag which automatically recorded their times.

The escalating jackpot for a runner who beats the first horse and rider, which started at £500 and increases by £500 per year until it is won, stands at £2000 for 2017. Caerphilly 10k - Sunday 18th June 2017. The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K is set to return in 2017 on Sunday 18th June along with the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 2k. With 2,300 runners of all abilities descending on Caerphilly from across the country to enjoy the event, we are looking to the 2016 event to be bigger and better as over 2500 participants and as many spectators gear up to line the route.

Set in the shadow of the spectacular Caerphilly Castle, the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k will both start and finish on Crescent Road. Runners will have the opportunity to run a good time on a relatively flat course with some undulating points. The course will lead participants in and around the town centre, passing iconic landmarks including the giant cheese sculpture and Tommy Cooper statue along the way and offering great views of the medieval castle, which dominates as the stunning backdrop to the event. The event is organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council and is supported by Welsh Athletics, Run Wales and Sport Wales. JCP Swansea Half Marathon - Sunday 25th June 2017.
