Ethan @ NewhouseSM4. Social media, teens, parents and whether to ‘friend’ - On Parenting. Posted at 10:01 AM ET, 11/09/2011 Nov 09, 2011 03:01 PM EST TheWashingtonPost (Chuck Snyder - SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON POST) Social media has become an extension of the school hallway for the vast majority of American students, with all the flirting, drama, occasional cruelty and flashes of maturity, according to a survey released today by Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project. The report also shows that electronic behavior has become a new frontier of parenting.

According to “Teens, Kindness and Cruelty on Social Network Sites: How American teens navigate the new world of ‘digital citizenship’, ” 95 percent of 12- to-17-year-olds are online and 80 percent of them belong to social media sites. On the heartening front, it turns out most teens do follow our advice Close to 60 percent of teen internet and cell phone users cited their parents as their biggest influence when it comes to their connected behavior.

I have observed this over the years and have now wrapped the entire observation in a theory: I believe that social media has awakened a heightened sense of graciousness amongst all of us who live and breathe there. It is also my view that after the "delete" button, the one button that has revolutionised this graciousness is the "share" button. Followed, not closely but comfortably, by the "like" button. The share button is not about transmission. It is about sharing, which is a far more psychological phenomenon rather than a mere viral vehicle. We are largely a selfish bunch of sods who like to keep things between us or at best within our cultural and social coteries. "This is strictly between us" overtook "I love you" as the 21st century's most widely used phrase (okay, that too is my theory).

The share button almost stripped us of our selfishness and innate desire to hoard knowledge or anything. The trend continues on Twitter. For me, it is the behaviour that is trending. Using social media to make medical decisions | ChicagoNow. It started innocently enough with a post on Facebook: Well, the MRI shows a torn ACL and stretched/inflamed MCL. I've decided against surgery and going down the physical therapy route. Which means I'll finally have a skinny knee. I had just returned from the doctor's office where we had an intense discussion about the treatment protocol for my torn ACL. There were a few twinges here and there throughout the year and I began to notice a pattern-- the knee would give out when I attempted to barefoot backward on my feet.

I couldn't ignore the problem any longer, and with the nagging from a fellow barefooter, I finally scheduled an MRI, which revealed a tear. I had just gotten off a week of skiing with an over-the-counter brace and the knee held up well. But after posting the update on Facebook and Twitter, there was a lot to reconsider. So I sat there in the early morning, mulling it all over. Ok, God, I need a sign. Filed under: sports. Dr4ward.com/ Teens, parents and social media: To friend or not to friend - On Parenting. Stop Begging Customers To “Like” You. Build A Better Facebook Page.

Grand Rapids Press File PhotoThe iPhone 4S is available on Verizon, Sprint and AT&T starting at $199 with a two-year contract. One problem with cell phones reviews, including mine, are they are usually written by geeky people who tried dozens of smartphones.

But smartphones continue to grow in popularity with normal people who don't know nerdy details such as the difference between LTE and HSPA+. Since the iPhone 4S is one of the most reviewed phones on the market, I decided to turn to a normal person for a review. My mother, Connie, is a 50-something who has been using smartphones longer than I have as leader of River Bend Travel in Hastings. Much to my chagrin, she has been happy using an antique Windows Mobile 5 smartphone and its keyboard. When a Verizon iPhone 4S review unit became available, I gave her a 30-minute tutorial. What do you want in a smartphone? What features did you enjoy on the iPhone? What do you think of the on-screen keyboard after a week's use? Why LinkedIn Events matters more Now « Marketing Nirvana. Probably the section in PSFK’s recent Future of Retail report is the trend of ‘Social Currency’. In this section we talk about how brands, retailers and hospitality companies are reconsidering the way they value shoppers thanks to tools like Klout and Kred. These services look at people’s social influence by looking at how their tweets or Facebook updates get shared and commented upon. The idea here is that a brand can change they way it acts around a customer if they know they have a large social megaphone shaped like a phone in their pocket. Klout says that it’s now working with 3,500 companies to offer to members with the right score aspects such as special perks, better customer service and reward loyalty. After several months of development, the San Francisco based service will be updating the way it judges people and this update points to the way to how the tracking of social influence will evolve.
