Until, that is, today when we came across this utterly mesmerising short film entitled Paperman straight from Walt Disney Studios themselves. The way they capture you is by no means groundbreaking, but is a surefire way to get you all weepy and slushy on a Wednesday morning. So, two good-looking, normal people meet on their commute, fall in love instantly, and then communicate using not email, not text, not Instagram, but good old paper planes. A two fingers up to modern technology whilst simultaneously being an affectionate nod to the Disney characters of yore (I swear he looks like Aladdin?!) This is nothing short of an absolute delight in craft and in storyline — the Disney style we know and love is back, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Walt Disney Studios: Paperman. Pero no es del todo cierto, Studio Ghibil, de Hayao Miyazaki, es famoso por usar animaciones a mano alzada y el animador francés, Sylvain Chomet usa la técnica en su obra. El filme de Disney de 2009, The Princess and the Frog, también fue hecho con esta técnica y puso fin a una sequía de seis años en que no había habido algo así. Así que la técnica sigue aquí. Allanando el camino hacia el futuro está Paperman, este corto de Walt Disney Animation Studios y el director John Kahrs. El filme mezcla a la perfección técnicas de dibujo a mano alzada e imágenes generadas por medio de computadoras, usando un software llamado Meander, el cual permite a los animadores combinar las diferentes prácticas y explotar lo mejor de las dos.

Science fiction movies are among the hardest and most expensive films to make in Hollywood. You need a big budget and a lot of people working on it. But not if you're Kaleb Lechowski. The 22-year-old German who studies digital film design made his own animated Hollywood-style sci-fi short — and now he's headed to Hollywood. Lechowski's film, titled R'ha, is a fully computer animated six-minute short that you won't believe was made by just one student. In R'ha, machines rebel against their rulers, an alien species, and force them out of their planet. The short starts with a robot interrogating one of the aliens after the Matrix-style insurrection.
Despite being the work of a student, R'ha is so good it's already attracted the attention of Hollywood executives. Lechowski studies at the Berlin Mediadesign Hochschule. Inspired mostly by movies like Matrix and videogames like Half-Life, Lechowski is a big sci-fi fan. Thanks to his impressive work, Lechowski is now headed to Hollywood. MAN.
