Line Drawing Techniques. AS Texture and Mark-Making. Mark Making | Leanne Berry. After two weeks of all our workshops being very digitally based, I was quite excited for this analogue workshop, cause i’ve always enjoyed the messier processes. What we had to do today was experiment with ‘abstract’ mark making using ink and inkpads, and various found objects to draw with. The questions we had to consider while doing so were: How are you making the mark? Angle of inflection, weight of action? What are you making the mark with? What are you making the mark on? So we started with general experimentation: I used many different materials: blue tack, bottle top, sponges, corrugated cardboard, card, a feather, pins, elastic bands, and many other materials, to see what kind of textures they create. We then went on to interpretation.
I used a pipe cleaner which gave these really nice lines that I thought looked like the ocean waves. I used one of the sponges and tried to make it look like when you balance pebbles on top of each other (accidental gapping) and finally, Manga Artists with Amazing Art Styles. Japan as we all know is celebrated for its near-perfection creative mediums like Graphic Novels, Animated films, Games and Movies. Out of all these creative forms, in recent times Manga comics (Graphic novels) on an international level, is fast becoming one the most popular reading material for booklover’s, the artistry and originality of which is astounding.
Audiences who are unfamiliar or have limited knowledge of this medium, may mistake them to be comics with stories of superheroes or teen humor. But in reality, the subject matter is widely varied and virtually limitless and so are the target audiences, which includes not just teenagers and children, fan following comprises young adults and even grown-ups. The amazingly diverse art styles followed by Mangaka's (Japanese word for a manga artist/ author) are rich in creativity and flooded with its ever-growing originality. The Roses of Heliogabalus (1888) by Lawrence Alma-Tadema. (Image: Wikipedia/Public domain) The Bachelor is back, which means the rose ceremony has returned.
Every episode, an increasingly smaller group of increasingly similar-looking women shall be summoned before some self-important smooth guy, who will dole out one flower each to the most attention-getting among them. It’ll be drawn-out. The Roses of Heliogabalus, shown above, is an 1888 painting by Lawrence Alma-Tadema that depicts the (probably fictional) proceedings. That’s sort of neat, but the much better story here belongs to the real third-century Roman emperor who orchestrated the purportedly lethal petal-dumping shown in the painting. Heliogabalus: emperor of Rome and insouciance. Tales from the hedonistic life of Heliogabalus, who ruled Rome from 218 until his death in 222 at the age of 19, are so salacious that it is difficult to determine which bits, if any, are true.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Two Sisters (restored), 1901, oil on canvas, 44 x 30 inches, Collection of Lawrence University. Though I attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna for nearly six years, I didn’t want their degree. When I was enrolled, back in the early 80s, you graduated with a piece of paper that conferred upon you the title of ‘Akademische Maler’ or Academic Painter. In working towards my earlier 1977 Bachelor’s degree in the States, every art history course, and most of the studio painting courses, agreed that Academic painting was the worst crime against art ever committed.
In my sophomore year at a small Midwestern liberal arts university this manifested itself in vandalism against the 19th century academic paintings that had the bad luck to hang in the same auditorium where art history lectures were delivered. A large Bouguereau painting received a dozen puncture wounds from the pens and pencils of the righteous. Woodcut printmaking. Rinpa. Art History Timeline - dummies. Google Image Result for.
Scrawl Magazine. Discover How to Draw & Paint Whatever You Want. Watercolor Painting. One of my favorite types of art is watercolor painting. Watercolors are a great way to introduce a child to painting -- they are fun and easy to clean up. It's also the media to try if you want to paint, but you have a limited amount of space or time. Easy to set up, interrupt, and pick up again, these paints provide a great deal of flexibility. Watercolors differ from other paints in that they are transparent. When light meets the paint, it actually travels through the paint to the white paper beneath, then bounces back from the paper. Some have compared this to the same effect you would get with stained glass. There is a large variety of supplies to choose from when beginning, but we’ll go through them so you can find the ones that will best fit your needs and budget.
For example, you’ll find that cheap paper tears easily; too much rubbing or too much water can cause it to fall apart. Below is a list of what you will need to begin your own watercolor painting: That's it. The Best Books for Learning How to Draw. We all learn in different ways. Some of us learn by watching, others by doing, and others by reading. Many of us learn most effectively by doing a combination of these things. Instructional videos are great for learning because the artist can demonstrate techniques in real time and explain their actions and thought process throughout the video. Instructional videos meet many styles of learning and for this reason are a popular platform for learning.
Videos are also more accessible than ever. Now that videos are part of our everyday lives, it’s easy to overlook the wonderful information that you can get from traditional books. Not that an illustration created with ink, watercolour and coloured pencil needs to air out and dry but it is a nice way to welcome it into the world. Or perhaps, I’ve lost it. On the other hand, titles for the illustrations that are airing out do not come easily at times. I didn’t title this piece until 10 minutes ago. In the beginning I was going to call it Struggle then thought about Weird, Talking Worms, Floral Burst or Look deeply into my eyes and make a wish or This is what the world looks like on mushrooms, but none of those titles really struck a chord with me. Look at this way… the stress swirling around in my brain finally made it out and onto paper in a way that I didn’t expect.
I’m using this new paper too. Culmination measures 10 by 10 inches (25,3cm by 25,3cm) and was created with Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens, Winsor and Newton watercolour and Prismacolor Verithin coloured pencils.
