The Glasshouse - Danielle de Picciotto & Alexander Hacke Mon, 11/26/2012 - 07:02 The Glasshouse is an experimental, silent movie, In which Danielle de Picciotto recounts her last bizarre night in NYC in 1986 which turned into a nightmarish dinner filled with terror, strengthening her resolution to leave the crime and drug riddled city of the eighties and also serving as a metaphor for the growing fear and paranoia in our society.

Danielle de Picciotto & Alexander Hacke have initiated Audio / Visual Productions since 2001. In 2011 Alexander composed a Soundtrack for the silent Glasshouse version and in 2012 they toured with the project, inviting guest musicians to participate: The Nihilist Spasm Band in London, Ontario. No road trip is complete without a playlist of songs that capture the spirit of traveling on the open road. So we’ve compiled a list of the 50 best road trip songs . In order to make this be-all end-all totally definitive list that all other lists look up to, the songs had to meet the following criteria: a.) encompass the excitement and freedom of road tripping b.) make the time pass faster c.) keep you awake without the assistance of questionably legal pills named “No Doze” d.) contain lyrics so singable that you’ll legitimately consider trying out for the next “American Idol” e.) keep you distracted long enough to make you forget you need to pee (which subsequently means stopping at a heinous rest stop where the bathroom stalls are tagged with death threats and truckers hit on you) f.) drown out the sound of your annoying friend who complains about a developing deep vein thrombosis from being crammed in the backseat (tough it up!)

Professor Wright introduces the course by suggesting that "listening to music" is not simply a passive activity one can use to relax, but rather, an active and rewarding process. He argues that by learning about the basic elements of Western classical music, such as rhythm, melody, and form, one learns strategies that can be used to understand many different kinds of music in a more thorough and precise way -- and further, one begins to understand the magnitude of human greatness.

Professor Wright draws the music examples in this lecture from recordings of techno music, American musical theater, and works by Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and Strauss, in order to introduce the issues that the course will explore in more depth throughout the semester. Reading assignment: None assigned Credits: Professor Wright's course contains copyrighted material, including portions of musical works, the use of which may not have been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. Audiopad. Audiopad is a composition and performance instrument for electronic music which tracks the positions of objects on a tabletop surface and converts their motion into music. One can pull sounds from a giant set of samples, juxtapose archived recordings against warm synthetic melodies, cut between drum loops to create new beats, and apply digital processing all at the same time on the same table. Audiopad not only allows for spontaneous reinterpretation of musical compositions, but also creates a visual and tactile dialogue between itself, the performer, and the audience.

Audiopad has a matrix of antenna elements which track the positions of electronically tagged objects on a tabletop surface. It does not use cameras or computer vision. Software translates the position information into music and graphical feedback on the tabletop. Each object represents either a musical track or a microphone. Audiopad was developed by James Patten and Ben Recht. Videos News. Music. Extreme Music. Patchwerk lets you control a massive analog synthesizer from your browser, and streams the results back to you and everyone connected. The interface on this site is linked to a physical synth cabinet connected to the world's largest homemade modular synth, currently housed at the MIT Museum. Turn a knob here, and Patchwerk will turn a motorized knob on the cabinet. If someone at the Museum grabs a knob, you'll see it turn too.

When you first connect, you'll be in OBSERVE mode, which means that you can hear the synth and see what the controllers are doing, but won't be able to activate the knobs or buttons yourself. To switch to CONTROL mode, enter your name in the box at right. There can be up to 10 people acting as controllers at one time. If there are already 10 signed on, you'll be added to a queue. Pulp Fiction Colloquially, it used to be called the "needle drop"—when a Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino picked a piece of preexisting music and laid it down under a dramatic scene, with seismic results. We've thumbed through our stacks of wax (i.e., Blu-ray collections) to collect cinema's most potent examples, allowing for iconic uses of classical music and jazz along with the expected pop hits. One parameter, though: no songs composed for the movie itself. (Sorry, Simple Minds.) The result is our most toe-tapping list to date. But do let us know if we've left out your favorite jam.

Around the late ’80s, Oxford psych-rock band Ride unexpectedly gave birth to the name of a new genre because of their somewhat introverted performance style. Taking note of the way the band members’ habit of looking down while playing, British journalists named the genre “shoegaze,” a once joking name that now represents some of the most beautiful and/or powerful rock records in existence.

Shoegaze music is frequently marked by its heavy use of guitar effects, and for that matter, heavy use of guitars. It’s dense and dreamy, often very loud, but quite gorgeous all the same. Shoegaze has been in the spotlight for much of the past decade, with bands like Deerhunter and M83 incorporating many of its stylistic elements. And bands like Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver and Chapterhouse have all embarked on reunion tours in recent years. This year will see more interesting shoegazer activity, now that Captured Tracks is planning on reissuing Medicine’s first two albums. Music – Sweden.se. New Sweden Music.
