Most BJD's have eye hooks or holes in the wrist end of the hand and top of the foot. If holes, a loop of strong string or nylon fishing line is tied in a loop in the hole. The arms get one loop of thick round doll-stringing elastic (thickness depends on the height and material of the doll).

I'm young and only recently made a doll out of super sculpey, but I think I may be able to help. Sculpey clay looks very nice as long as you have clean hands. And with the fragile part, I disagree. As long as you don't make it paper thin and you bake it long enough (most the pieces I baked I baked for 10-15-20 minutes[for a bigger doll maybe cook it longer]), it's very durable.
