Air changes per hour (ACH) The ACH (also known as air change value) is, like air permeability, a measure of infiltration (unplanned air changes) used for energy calculations to indicate the performance of a building in terms of both energy use and fabric integrity.
Air permeability The air permeability is measure of infiltration (unplanned air changes) to indicate the performance of a building in terms of both energy use and fabric integrity. It indicates the cubic metres of air leakage per square metre of external area of the building per hour – [m3 m-2 h-1]. A visual exploration on mapping complex networks. Passivhaus News. The Passivhaus standard introduces new categories and additional criteria to ensure it meets EU mandates for all new developments to be ‘Nearly Zero Energy Buildings’ in 2021.
At the 2014 International Conference, Wolfgang Feist addressed the need for a new calculation method for primary energy demand that also considers energy production via renewable energy systems and energy storage systems. The intent is to incorporate and encourage a robust assessment of the environmental impacts of these systems. A new Primary Renewable Energy (PRE) factor has been produced that allows for a more rational way to express a building’s energy balance and climate impact. The new certification levels address and engage a larger future market, given the need to engage the EU mandate for all new buildings to be NZEBs in 2021: Energy Conservation Building - may be certified with an annual space heating demand which is double that of a Passive House Classic building.
Further information: PHT previous story. Passivhaus News. WARM have undertaken quite a lot of work on understanding ventilation systems and their commissioning.
They have created a customised Vent Design & Commissioning sheet based on the PHI’s Excel sheet (see www.passiv.de). The Design tab contains an additional calculation to check compliance with the UK Part F 2010 (vent. building regulations) and a series of inputs on the Commissioning tab to discount background noise. The latter allows measurements to be taken on site during commissioning and the results can immediately be checked to make sure that they comply with the Passivhaus noise criteria. Download here. IFS publications & research. IFS aims to put all its research findings in the public domain, either in our own publications or in other people's (ranging from peer-reviewed academic journals to newspaper articles).
Most of the Institute's own publications are available free of charge online and some are also sold in hard copy. Among our own publications: Reports, such as our annual Green Budget, are substantial documents that lay out the findings of new research and are accessible to an informed non-academic audience. Briefing notes are short summaries on current policy issues intended to be accessible to as wide an audience as possible. 25 Killer Websites that Make You Cleverer.
