NanoService - Sensinode Ltd

Features of NanoServices include: high efficiency, resource discovery and management, eventing, semantic naming, semantic search and end-to-end security. The NanoService Platform (NSP) is a flexible and highly-scalable product designed to enable the deployment of challenging M2M applications on private server, private cloud or public cloud environments. It provides a directory and semantic lookup of all M2M nodes and resources in the system, provides transparent proxy services between the large-resource traditional Internet and constrained-resource protocols, and supports an eventing model that is critical to the effectiveness of Embedded Web applications.

Introduction What do applications such as Personal Health Monitoring, intelligent tracking and tracing in the supply chain, smart utility metering, remote control of vending machines, industrial wireless automation and ambient assisted living all have in common?

ETSI M2M

They are all made possible thanks to Machine to Machine Communications. This fast-growing sector is predicted to see billions of machines interconnected in a near future. The cellular M2M segment in particular is forecast to produce record growth. While many M2M deployments will make use of short-range or proprietary radio links, cellular-based M2M solutions will be preferred where mobility is required, or where high data volumes or data transfer rates are involved.

Cellular-based M2M can also provide easier installation and provisioning, especially for short-term deployments. Telecoms networks may need to be optimised to cater for these new ‘subscribers', who may have very different behaviour from current customers. Microsoft StreamInsight - Building the Internet of Things. There’s a lot of buzz about the “Internet of Things” (IoT) lately, and for good reason.

Microsoft StreamInsight - Building the Internet of Things

Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg estimates 50 billion devices will be connected to the Web by 2020 (bit.ly/yciS7r [PDF download]). To put this number in perspective, right now there are about 1.5 billion Web-connected PCs and fewer than 1 billion Web-connected phones—50 billion is about seven devices for every human being on the planet! Market research firm IDC in turn estimates that more than 16 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2015 (see Figure 1). Admittedly, some more conservative projections exist as well, but by anyone’s numbers this represents a huge shift in the role of the Internet—from providing information and entertainment to people to supplying the connectivity for an emerging class of device-enabled applications.
