We need to talk about TED. In our culture, talking about the future is sometimes a polite way of saying things about the present that would otherwise be rude or risky.
But have you ever wondered why so little of the future promised in TED talks actually happens? So much potential and enthusiasm, and so little actual change. Are the ideas wrong? Or is the idea about what ideas can do all by themselves wrong? I write about entanglements of technology and culture, how technologies enable the making of certain worlds, and at the same time how culture structures how those technologies will evolve, this way or that. So my TED talk is not about my work or my new book – the usual spiel – but about TED itself, what it is and why it doesn't work. The first reason is over-simplification. Après avoir étudié à Polytechnique et Telecom Paris, Bruno Maisonnier a bâti sa carrière sur deux piliers : l’informatique (Sociétés de services en ingénierie informatique) et la Banque.
Il a été PDG d’entreprises financières dans plusieurs pays. Fasciné par la robotique, Bruno Maisonnier suivait activement depuis 25 ans l’évolution de ce marché et, en 2005, il décide de se lancer dans une aventure sans commune mesure : la création d’un robot humanoïde. C’est la naissance d’Aldebaran Robotics, startup regroupant une poignée d’ingénieurs et de doctorants. En 6 ans d’existence, la folle entreprise de Bruno Maisonnier est devenue la 1ère entreprise européenne spécialisée dans la création et commercialisation de robots humanoïdes programmables au sein de laquelle travaillent plus de 130 personnes.

Ditto if you examine the strips of land in the middle of the town’s roads, the area in front of its elder-care home, or the landscaping around its railroad station. You will find corn as high as an elephant’s eye in front of Todmorden’s police station, and fruit trees planted around its health center. Everywhere you turn in Todmorden, edible plants abound.
