Manifesto for a Post-Digital Interface Criticism.

We are living in an interface culture: wherever we are, we find touch screens, microphones, sensors, cameras; and we are constantly reminded of interfaces through their sounds.

Manifesto for a Post-Digital Interface Criticism

Whether mobile, networked or embedded in architecture or artefacts, the number of interfaces constantly increases to meet the desires of technologies, users and markets. Usually, an interface is understood as a technological artefact optimized for seamless interaction and functionality. However, the interface also draws upon cultural and artistic traditions, and plays an important role in our culture as art, entertainment, communication, work and businesses. It is a cultural form with which we understand, act, sense and create our world. Tom Grinsted, product manger: core mobile applications,Guardian News and Media Keep it simple: For me, keeping it simple is about getting to market early and then iterating – the highest-risk projects are those when you don't have visibility of how successful your work is.

Mobile in museums: tips and advice from the experts

It means that you can't adapt to users and you can't easily evolve your product. So being simple is about getting out there, seeing how it works – then iterating. Many apps evolve over time and become better and better, as well as more complicated. There is a school of thought that says the best apps are the most simple and focused. Define what success looks like: Too many times organisations embark on projects, especially technical ones that may be outside their comfort zones, without defining what success looks like. This week, the museum announced that it is resurrecting the program in the form of a laboratory and has partnered with companies including Google and SpaceX. Post-web technology: what comes next for museums?

From wearables to virtual reality, a plethora of new technology is emerging that challenges the primacy of the screen at the heart of digital experiences. At this year’s annual Museums Computer Group conference, Museums Beyond the Web, we’re asking: what comes after the web for museums? Museums are scattered with the remnants of past technologies. Audiences may be unaware of the ethernet ports lurking behind a kiosk, but display screens that don’t respond to their touch often baffle younger visitors. These legacies remind us of the inescapable fact that technologies and audience expectations move fast while museums move slow. Many of us cut our teeth on the web, tentatively carving out a new discipline, with a shorter pedigree than marketing or press but a seemingly infinite potential.
