DIY Drippy Nails. We were immediately inspired the moment we saw bare nails with blood-like, drippy polish accompany Prabal Gurung‘s spring collection at New York Fashion Week. Halloween is one of our favorite holidays and thus, the timing couldn’t have been better to recreate this deliciously daring DIY for our phalanges. Though a more vampy, burgundy color went down the runway, I went for more vibrant red . . . but the best part about this tutorial is that you can make it your own with just about any color, for any season!

You’ll need: Dip the toothpick into the nail polish bottle so that the tip collects a round bead of polish. Place the bead of polish on a bare nail and drag it upwards, creating a tapered line. Create two to three more tapered lines, re-dipping the toothpick into the polish each time. Reload the toothpick with polish and drag a line across the tip of the nail. Repeat the steps on the other nine fingers and voila, you’re done!!

It's a much simpler design and has very easy to follow steps. I also created this little mini quick reference "cheat sheet" for the steps. These are the materials you will need. Hole Puncher(s) I found smaller heart one at the dollar store, Nail polishes and masking tape (painters tape works also and I find it easier to work with thin tape). Paint your nails with the base color you chose. Punch out your shape with the hole puncher. Apply polish over your shape. Apply your top coat and you're done!

The Nailasaurus. Newsprint manicure. I saw this newsprint manicure over on The Daily Nail and thought it was adorable (especially for bookworms and word lovers like myself). I did a little Google detective work to see how to recreate it, and was surprised at how easy it is! All of the tutorials I found called for vodka or other clear distilled spirits, but we were fresh out.

I used isopropyl alcohol instead, and it seemed to get the job done. I tried a quick and dirty version this afternoon to share it with you: Like this: Like Loading... Water Marble Tutorial. Okay, so we’re only three weeks in to this whole thing and I’m already showing you a tame look after I totally promised some of you that I’d do a newsprint nail tutorial this week. Newsprint we can do next week, but for right now I wanted/needed a manicure by a professional. As I told you in the first “Get Yo’ Nails Did”, it’s important to include real manicures in your nail routine if you’re not comfortable cutting your cuticles and getting into the real work at home. I am not. I’m willing to shell out $20 bucks to have the dirty work done right, but I’m not going to splurge on nail art at the salon most of the time. As you can see from the photo above, I prefer to do a basic manicure but make it a little different by switching up the colors on my index and middle fingers.

This is my “understated yet classy” look and while it still may be a bit much for some of you, you can choose colors that don’t contrast so much.
