Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra - Beginning Of The Heartbreak / Don't Don't. Peter Laurence Gordon. Peter Gordon (born June 20, 1951, New York City) is an American experimental composer and musician, whose music draws from influences as diverse as jazz, opera, rock and world music. He has released several albums, and has also composed film and theatre scores. Gordon earned a BA in composition at University of California, San Diego, where he studied with Kenneth Gaburo and Roger Reynolds; he earned an MFA at the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music, where he studied with Robert Ashley and Terry Riley.

In 2008 an excerpt of his opera (with artist Lawrence Weiner) "The Society Architect Ponders the Golden Gate Bridge" was issued on the compilation album Crosstalk: American Speech Music (Bridge Records) produced by Mendi + Keith Obadike. Most recently, Gordon wrote the scores for the serial mystery drama "The Necklace", presented by The Talking Band. He also worked on the soundtrack to Desperate Housewives. Peter Gordon currently resides in New Rochelle, New York. LCD Soundsystem. On February 5, 2011, a statement was posted on the band's website that announced its disbandment following a farewell concert, which took place on April 2, 2011, at Madison Square Garden.[1] The farewell concert is chronicled in the documentary film Shut Up and Play the Hits. Their last televised performance was on February 14, 2011 on The Colbert Report.[2] History[edit] Early singles and self-titled album (2002–2005)[edit] On December 8, 2005 the group received nominations for two Grammy awards in the Electronica category for their self-titled album and in the Dance category for "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House. 45:33 and Sound of Silver (2006–2008)[edit] LCD Soundsystem's second album, Sound of Silver, was released on March 12, 2007, to near universal critical acclaim.[11] Praise included Mixmag awarding it the title Album of the Month, a 9.2 score from Pitchfork Media[12] and a 5-star review from The Guardian.[13] The album release was preceded by the single "North American Scum".

James Murphy (electronic musician) Starting in 1993, Murphy used the name Death from Above when DJing, a nickname that was given to his signature PA setup while he was the sound setup for Six Finger Satellite. In 1999 he formed Death from Above Records (later abbreviated to "DFA Records") in New York City with Tim Goldsworthy (formerly of UNKLE). The name "Death from Above" led to a dispute with a two-man Canadian band also using the same name. In response to a legal threat, the Canadian group changed their name to Death from Above 1979.[4] Murphy announced his retirement from LCD Soundsystem with the release of This Is Happening, and made his last television appearance under that name on February 14, 2011, on The Colbert Report.

His last concert at Madison Square Garden was simulcast streaming on Pitchfork Media's website on April 2, 2011. In late 2013, Murphy released a remix of the track "Love Is Lost" from David Bowie's latest album, The Next Day.[14] Pat Mahoney Discography at Discogs. <div class="alert_message warning"><div class="set_to_page_width"><i class="icon icon-exclamation-triangle icon-large"></i><strong>Please enable Javascript to take full advantage of our site features. </strong></div></div> Pat Mahoney Edit Artist add an image In Groups: Alloy (5) , Grin (3) Variations: Viewing All | Pat Mahoney Patrick Mahoney [a578503] Artist Edit Artist Share Marketplace 104 For Sale Vinyl and CD Pat Mahoney Discography 6 submissions pending 1 – 10 of 10 <button type="submit">Refresh</button> Reviews Add Review Lists Add to List Videos Edit Add a Video © 2014 Discogs™ Terms of ServicePrivacy Policy English.

Chic (band) Chic also introduced a young session vocalist, Luther Vandross, who sang on Chic's early albums. He later became notable in his own right. After a 1989 birthday party where Rodgers, Edwards, Paul Shaffer, and Anton Fig played old Chic songs, Rodgers and Edwards organized a reunion of the old band. They recorded new material—- a single, "Chic Mystique" (remixed by Masters at Work) and subsequent album Chic-Ism, both of which charted—- and played live all over the world, to great audience and critical acclaim.

Thompson died of kidney cancer on November 12, 2003 at age 48. Chic released four new albums during the 2000s (3 compilations, 1 live album): The Very Best of Chic, Good Times: The Very Best of the Hits & the Remixes, A Night in Amsterdam, and The Definitive Groove Collection. Chic has been nominated for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame eight times: 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013. In October 2010, Rodgers began his fight with prostate cancer. Core band: Instant Funk I Got My Mind Made Up 1978 360p. Instant Funk. History[edit] The group relocated to Philadelphia in 1976 to release its first album, Get Down With the Philly Jump, as they started to formulate their own sound. The group followed this album up with a release for former MFSB guitarist Norman Harris' new record label Gold Mind, with front man Bunny Sigler entitled "Let Me Party With You". The Gold Mind label folded, and Instant Funk's new cut "I Got My Mind Made Up" was transferred to the Salsoul label, which pushed the record heavily to all of the disco clubs.

The remix of this song by club DJ Larry Levan and engineer Bob Blank quickly became the talk of Manhattan. "I Got My Mind Made Up" hit #1 on both the R&B and disco charts and #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the spring of 1979. Instant Funk initially stayed together to tour when Salsoul folded. Instant Funk collaborated and released a music video "I'm Your Reflection" in 2013 with new R & B / Soul / Jazz artist Soul Artist, Shantel bio update to follow later. Kinky : 1984. In 1995 the song was remixed by Johnny Vicious. In 1997 the song was remixed by Alex Neri. In 1998 the song was remixed by Succi and in 2003 the song was remixed by Thunderpuss. Donaldson Toussaint L'Ouverture Byrd II (December 9, 1932 – February 4, 2013) was an American jazz and rhythm and blues trumpeter. A sideman for many other jazz musicians of his generation, Byrd was best known as one of the only bebop jazz musicians who successfully pioneered the funk and soul genres while simultaneously remaining a jazz artist.

As a bandleader, Byrd is also notable for his influential role in the early career of renowned keyboard player and composer Herbie Hancock. Biography[edit] Early life & career[edit] Byrd attended Cass Technical High School. "He was the first person to let me be a permanent member of an internationally known band. Was (Not Was) - Tell Me That I'm Dreaming. Was (Not Was) Was (Not Was) is an American eclectic pop group founded by David Weiss (a.k.a. David Was) and Don Fagenson (a.k.a. Don Was). They gained popularity in the 1980s and early 1990s. Weiss and Fagenson were childhood friends who grew up together in suburban Detroit. Partly due to Fagenson's poverty they decided to form Was (Not Was) in 1979. In 1982, the group played on Don't Walk Away, a solo album for lead singer "Sweet Pea" Atkinson. In 1988, they found their biggest hit with the album What Up, Dog? In late 2004, Was (Not Was) reformed and were back on stage for a two-month club tour through US (including stops at the House of Blues in Cleveland and Chicago and the Trocadero in Philadelphia).

Detroit's Metro Times described the band as "an endearing mess....a sausage factory of funk, rock, jazz and electronic dance music, all providing a boogie-down backdrop for a radical (and witty) political message of unbridled personal freedom and skepticism of authority. Lenny Williams - "you got me running" Lenny Williams. Leonard Charles "Lenny" Williams (born February 16, 1945, Little Rock, Arkansas)[1] is an American singer known for his work in the R&B and soul music genres. Early life and career[edit] Williams was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and later moved to Oakland, California, at a young age. Professional recordings[edit] Solo works[edit] While still with Tower of Power, he recorded his first solo album Pray For The Lion for Warner Bros.
