Macquarie is ranked in the 201st-300th bracket and 8th-9th in Australia in the 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities.[3] Founded in 1964 by the New South Wales Government, it was the third university to be established in the metropolitan area of Sydney. The university comprises four faculties, and is the fourth largest University in Sydney.[4] At present, the university offers 87 undergraduate courses and 124 different postgraduate courses to students.[5][6] The university is governed by a 17-member Council.[7] Macquarie University also has the largest student exchange programme in Australia.[8] The university is also ranked among the national top five recipients of relative research income.[9]
