In this tutorial I´ll explain how to create full spherical panorama renderings within 3Ds Max with VRay. You can use this technique to create panorama tours through architecture, skydomes for image based lighting, animations in planetariums or amusement parks or just for fun. Usually for QTVR you would use the included panorama exporter from 3Ds Max, but using VRay and Global Illumination you would get different looking images for each side of the cube, because each side would be rendered as one image separately. So when GI is used, the corners / connections between the sides would not be consistent and therefore this method is not well suited for panorama renderings.

In order to render proper 360° domes or spheres you should use the VRay camera method that is also suitable for animations. Lets start with a full sphere 360° panorama. Now the question is what can you do with this equirectangular format ? 360 panorama in 3ds Max tutorial. Everybody knows how important the visualization and its role is in presentation of the design to the end user with nice photorealistic images. How is easy the understanding between the client and the designer when there are no need in explaining and thinking over drawings, plans, sketches, elevations and other raw technical information... What if the client wants a greater sense of presence and volume than the 2d bitmap images, while doing the animation is impractical because of the significant time and computational costs?

The answer to this rhetorical and quite topical question is the pseudo three-dimensional representation of 2d images using 3d interactive panoramas technology.
