How can employers tap into mental health technology to create a better, more happy working environment for their employees Caring for employees’ mental health will never be an easy task, but it is made infinitely less complex by technology Winter is often the time when people’s mental wellbeing suffers most. Short, dark days combined with financial pressures thanks to the gift-giving season can lead to “Winter Blues” of pandemic proportions. With mental health services facing this seasonal strain, many people are turning to technology, specifically mobile apps, to monitor and maintain their own mental wellbeing. >See also: How digital health could revolutionise the mental healthcare system This trend reveals a potential gap in mental healthcare provision, and points to the proactive role technology plays in bridging it.

In fact, digital technology gets a lot of flack for having a detrimental impact on our mental health and wellbeing, but can technology actually help support us in these areas? It’s no secret that we’re a smartphone society. The average American checks their smartphone 46 times a day and spends 1.8 hours online– using apps accounts for 89% of that time.

But could any of that time actually go towards improving our mental health or wellbeing? Nicki Sprinz, managing director of ustwo, a company that has collaborated on several wellness and mindfulness apps, says that when used correctly, technology can actually enhance our wellbeing. For instance, the Pause app, a collaboration between PauseAble and ustwo, is inspired by meditation and tai chi. Pause was created as a way to reduce anxiety and stress. Why Artificial Intelligence Will Shift Human Innovation Into Overdrive. Civilization has reached a major inflection point, with the development of artificial intelligence technology triggering a massive acceleration in the pace of human innovation. For the first time in history, the innovation equation is about to change, for it is no longer solely dependent on human cerebral capacity and population growth.

I first indicated as much during a keynote presentation at AI World this past December. AI will hyper-accelerate the rate of innovation as its algorithmic capabilities and computer-processing power outpace its biological equivalent. The description of the history of mankind has consistently followed an “innovation curve,” which started with man gaining control over fire about 1 million years ago and then continued with the invention of the wheel, Gutenberg's printing press, the lightbulb and at least 10,000 other key innovations. This means that the human innovation curve is about to dramatically change for the first time in history.
