Apologies for the lame weekly poll (it was about the best spots to sleep on vacation), but that was the big question on my mind when I got home. I had a great time, but it feels good to sleep in my own bed again---and to play some Neutral Milk Hotel on my uke again! In that spirit, this video is on Holland, 1945, another great Neutral Milk Hotel song along with In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It's a dang good album that was inspired by the diary of Anne Frank, and this song seems to be the only one directly talking about her (maybe? Who knows).

In making this, I sought assistance from Woodshed at ukulelehunt.com to make sure the chords I had were all correct. Ukulele Hunt chords and lyrics can be found here. I am not quite at that level yet, but I did incorporate the advanced techniques into my youtube tutorial video: Intro Verse 1 ChorusVerse 2 (exact same chords and timing as verse 1)Chorus (same as above) Verse 3. Mike: I strictly a play-along-er. I don’t have enough breath to make it through the first line of Happy Birthday. amber and Ed: I had no idea NMH were loved so much. We don’t hear much from them in the UK. p: Yes, the notes are the same, No, it doesn’t sound exactly the same. It is only a subtle difference, but I think it’s worthwhile. Liam: It’s the same kind of thing with this. Pffffff. I should write up a song from that.” Me a week ago: “I should probably get round to that now.” So this is long overdue and now fairly irrelevant but it’s still an excellent song. And pretty easy since it’s only three chords. Suggested Strumming For the main strumming pattern you can use this: d – d – d u d u Which sounds like this (slow then up to speed): Main Strum Do that twice for the F and once each for the C and Bb in the first two lines.

The only tricky bit is the quick change in the intro, verse ends and instrumental parts. Tricky Strum After that, you’re back to the easy pattern for C and Bb. Twiddly Bits I’ve included tab for the two accordion/trumpet/melodica parts in the chord sheet. Break It’s played twice through (as here) on the original but only once in the NUH version. Outro.
