Behold wide-canopied meadow mushrooms, spreading far and wide; golden proliferations of honey mushrooms drizzled across felled fabric logs; and black-rimmed ink caps, sprouting from the hardwood floor.
Larger than larger-than-life, the toadstool tableaus lend a fresh, organic feel to our windows. Every inch of these ancient landscapes inspired us this season—from the whitewashed cube homes carved into the hills to the turquoise sparkle of the Aegean Sea—while their palette of whites, creams and blues feels so simple, so crisp, so refreshingly serene amidst the vibrant shades of summer. About 50 people contacted me during that week, and the talks I had with them lasted from ten minutes to one and a half hours, if you leave out the black woman who quickly stopped and asked me the question: Should I marry him or not? And who disappeared again, laughing, without waiting for an answer.
The issues that people came to me for guidance on were primarily existential issues. I think my life is off course, what should I do? That type of question. An example of what happened during the week: Three young Muslim girls come up to me, they are teasing each other, joking, they’re obviously a little uncertain about the situation. I ask her, what would your situation be like if - and try to imagine that this scenario is real - so, how would the whole situation look if your two friends didn’t exist, they are not a part of your life, they’re gone, erased from your consciousness?
