We only had one night here as we were passing through on the way to Guimaraes, but we could have stayed for days. The cottage itself is simple, but elegant with charming exposed stone walls and beautiful antique wooden furnishings but with very modern kitchen and bath fittings. We arrived after dark and it was quite cold, so we lit a fire in the fireplace, though there are electric heaters available - both of us grew up in Vermont and we just love having a warm fire crackling away on the hearth. Since we visited in the late Autumn the breezes can be gusty and chilly, but made us feel all the more at home! We were awakened the next morning by cattle and then goats being driven along the path under the bedroom window - it was dawn and the sun was just about to break the horizon. São Jorge is a traditional Minho village, where people still grow their own food and often make their own wine. The cottage is a nice place to hang out and sits on the edge of the village, a short walk away from the river. It comfortably sleeps four adults or two adults and two children. There are a double bed and two twin beds. Upon request we can supply a baby bed or an extra normal size bed, so the cottage can sleep five. The house has a good size living room with a little book exchange (you can borrow books during your stay, but also swap one if you haven't finished by the end of your stay) and there are plenty of boardgames to be played in the evening.
There is a fully equipped kitchen for you to use and a dining table inside as well as on the terrace in front of the house. We love our cottage and hope you do too.
