blog: Sterling Silver Now Available Until November 7th

In the past we did a test with Silver Ring Poems and Cufflinks, but now you can order any design in brilliant shiny Silver, until at least November 7th10th. We'll use this test period to see if we can achieve the quality and speed that we want. Also, we'll need to learn what size of objects will be ordered - larger objects mean lower overhead costs for us, and in the long run better prices/cm3 for you!

Material and Process We're using Sterling silver which is 92.5% pure silver. Price and Delivery Time Silver costs $48/cm3, with a minimum of $30. Design Rules The design rules aren't finished yet - we're still learning how to handle Silver properly. As we're still in the initial stages we have to rely heavily on our operators - their experience will tell us whether an object is printable or not. Adding Sprues Ordering new objects in Silver When uploading a new model you can now select Silver as an available material.

I.Materialise Glitters with Gold and Silver. 3D print service i.Materialise now offers printing in Gold and Silver metals.

i.Materialise Glitters with Gold and Silver

They're not the first service to offer this ability, but it's wonderful to see another golden service. Specifics: In addition to the sterling silver, there are three colors of 14 kt gold offered, bright yellow, reddish tinge and white gold available. Prints can be made with up to 0.3mm resolution. The maximum size of these prints is only 88x63x125mm - but if it wasn't limited by size, it would be limited by your pocketbook, as printing in gold and silver is quite expensive. There's one catch: the i.Materialise print farm doesn't actually print gold and silver directly.

Actually, there are two catches. We foresee a great deal of imaginative jewelry appearing now that there are good gold/silver 3D printing options available to designers. I.materialise is proud to launch Gold and Silver. Today, for the first time ever, you have the chance to create your own products in gold with i.materialise! We are ecstatic to be the first 3D printing service in the world to offer you the chance to see your creations brought to life in this amazing material. And, if that was not enough, we are also announcing the launch of sterling silver. Our Periodic Table of Materials has never looked so good!

“There’s gold in that thar 3D printing service” It has been 183 years since the first Gold Rush hit in the United States and although most of us are no longer racing off to make our fortunes digging in “them thar hills”, the lure of gold and the power it holds over us remains. The gold used is 14 carat and there are three colors to choose from: very bright yellow gold, a deeper gold with a reddish rose tinge, and white gold. Don’t forget, there is also silver! Just like in the Olympics, Gold will probably steal all the attention in this post, but silver is not to be underestimated. Pricing. Rapid Jewlery Design. After a fewhints of 3D printing entering the jewelry manufacturing space, we bumped into an article from the All About Rocks blog.

Rapid Jewlery Design

They say: The world of Jewelry Manufacturing is right now entering a phase of evolution, the old arts of sketching, modeling, reviewing and restarting that long time consuming process until satisfaction are disappearing. For years already the designers of most of our jewelry have called upon the power of CAD based computer systems to quickly sketch 3d models of new classic and modern designs. This takes place before the time and budget consuming process of 3d modeling to see how it would look in reality. At that point an approval can be secured and the item can go into full jewelry production.

Word of mouth (and in this case a blog) continues to carry the message of 3D printing to others in that industry. Via All About Rocks. Jewelry. 3D Printing with Freedom Of Creation. A complete guide from jewelry design to 3D printer.
