XHTML1.0 Attributes: Black Widow Web Design. If you do spot any errors, please send them to info@blackwidows.co.uk. There does still seem to be some confusion as to whether the target attribute is available within the XHTML Transitional DTD or not. The current XHTML Transitional DTD at does contain the target attribute (check line 650). However, the supporting documentation at: does not list target as an available attribute for the <a> element. Furthermore, the only information that I have been able to glean from the W3C lists seems to indicate that, in November 2001, the above document was correct. It does look as if the XHTML Transitional DTD was re-written between Nov 2001 and Aug 2002 and the target attribute re-instated but that the supporting documentation was never updated. If anyone knows of any further definitive documentation on this subject, please let me know.
