Randi Zuckerberg Defends Silicon Valley Show on Bravo

Our own Hermione Way is involved with the project, which looks like it’s already become a polarizing topic. Some journalists, like Sarah Lacy at Pando Daily, have spoken out against the program. Lacey, who has not seen anything of the show beyond the previews, took exception to the clip’s depiction of ‘people drinking and shirtless in clubs’, saying “It is quite literally making us look like “The Jersey Shore,” only without the tans. Anyone who has spent a day here knows just how bastardized that is.

It’s ridiculous really.” She went on to ask of Randi Zuckerberg, Executive Producer of the show and sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “How on earth can [she] — who is one of the closest people in the world to this generation’s best tech entrepreneur — pretend that preview is an accurate depiction of the Valley?” Will there be drama? Tawkify Finds You a Mate Based on Your Klout Score

Tawkify rolled out in January to set up singles, but on Monday, the service added a new twist to its matchmaking methods: connecting people with similar Klout scores. Tawkify co-creator E. Jean Carroll, a long-time advice columnist for Elle magazine and former Saturday Night Live writer, believes a person's influence on the web is just as important as a profile photo. That's why Tawkify is partnering with Klout, which measures people's influence on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and Foursquare to assign scores from 0 to 100.

"People with high Klout scores know how to listen and know how to react; they're cute, smart and connected," Carroll, 69, told Mashable. To use Tawkify, a person completes a brief questionnaire and submits a photo. Carroll and Shaw tested the Klout score element before Monday's announcement. There's Nostalgia in the Waters of Lake.js

Image: Lake.js Remember when the best way to align table cells was with a one-pixel gif? For that matter, remember tables? Sometimes it’s easy to forget how far the web has come in the last decade, which is why we like the otherwise somewhat useless Lake.js. Lake.js is a JQuery plugin that creates a shimmering reflection of an image, an effect that dates from the days of Geocities — back when the web was nothing but one pixel gifs and under construction banners. The appeal of Lake.js isn’t just about nostalgia though, it’s also a nice reminder that the web no longer needs to rely on terrible Java applets (the main source of cheesy lake reflections in the early days), or any other proprietary technologies to build shimmering lake effects. Sure some of the web’s most common tools might still be hacks (CSS floats anyone?)

Also, the first person to port Lake.js to pure CSS… please e-mail us when you’re done. Joyeux nyaniversaire ! Nya nya nya nya nya nyaaaaa, _ Nya nya nya nya nya nyaaaaa, _ Nya nya nya nya nya nyaaaaa Nyan Caaaaat,

Minotaure, tu dois finir ta thèse (again) Richard Stallman To Launch His Own Fashion Line. After making massive neckbeards a universal style statement, Richard Stallman, revered software freedom activist and computer programmer, has turned to the world of fashion. His new collection, titled RMS, is a luxury line of clothing specially designed for geeks and programmers. The launch follows on the success of GNU, a fragrance which he created and distributed for free.

Richard first decided to venture into the fashion world when he noticed the bad dressing sense of his fellow programmers. “A programmer should always be well-groomed, you see.” says the 59 year old activist. “Walking down the halls of MIT, I’d often see my colleagues dressed rather shabbily, and it was then that I decided to do something about it.

RMS will feature Stallman’s trademark style specially tweaked to suit young programmers and geeks. Stallman has promised to unveil the first batch of designs at FOSSCON 2012, where, he’ll also be delivering the opening keynote. Image Credits: ChristianPayne via Flickr.
