A PERFECT paint palette- Second Edition. After an overwhelmingly positive response from our perfect paint palette blog post earlier this year, the Pure Energy design team is proud to present the second edition! When selecting paint colors for clients homes the design team tends to stick with a favorite palette of tried and tested colors, as we know they always looks fantastic and showcase each room in its best light. However, we are constantly on the lookout for fresh new colors that fit within our perimeters of what works in a room. Here are a couple of our guidelines to consider when choosing paint colors: Avoid extremely bold, bright and dark colors, they give an overwhelming first impression by dominating a room and often make a space look smaller than it is. Strong colors will likely have less appeal to a broader market of prospective buyers.Stay away from acidic paint colors (paints without white in the base) as they appear cold (even yellows).

Colors may vary for different monitor settings. A Palette Guide To Basement Paint Colors | Home Tree Atlas. How to Finish a Basement: Framing and Insulating - Step by Step: The Family Handyman. Start the job by gluing 3/4-in. extruded foam insulation to rim joists and foundation walls (Photo 1). Extruded polystyrene foam (imprinted on each sheet; see Photo 5) can be yellow, pink or blue depending on the manufacturer.

Avoid “expanded” foam insulation (the type that has little white beads pressed together) because it isn't as durable and has a lower R-value. Make cuts by snapping chalk lines to mark and then score it with a utility knife as deep as the blade will penetrate. Then snap the sheet just like you cut drywall. Carefully cut around obstructions and fill spaces with small chunks of foam wherever it's needed, working for tight fits. Then caulk seams and gaps to seal against air infiltration (Photo 2). You'll add fiberglass later for a higher R-value. Next frame the stud walls 1/2 in. away from the foam (or more if your foundation's uneven). Lay out stud locations by laying both plates side by side and then hook your tape measure on one end and mark studs every 16 in.

I chose to use my router and the same bit that I used on all the other rabbits. You have to be very careful as there is not much to balance the router on at this point. I have a couple of not so pretty cuts on mine where the router tipped, so be careful. Once this is done, you ready for sanding and paint or stain. I chose to install my doors before the glass goes in.

Scott Gibson, Contributing Editor What can be done to prevent long-term water damage to my home's siding and framing where my exterior deck meets the side of the house? Many a homeowner has pulled off an aging outdoor deck to discover siding, sheathing and framing that's the consistency of oatmeal and home to a thriving colony of carpenter ants. More often than not, a major contributor is worn or missing flashing. Without flashing, there's nothing to prevent water from seeping behind the ledger board that connects deck framing to the house. Over time, trapped water leads to decay-not only in wood building materials but even in metal fasteners that hold the deck together. Flashing is layered protection So what is flashing?

You can count on one thing-water flows unerringly toward the ground. If it's going to work, flashing must be installed so no seams face uphill. Many types to choose from Lots of materials can be used for flashing. Today, builders often use one of these standards: Aluminum.

Cabinets. Drywall Butt Joints. (What's A Butt Joint??) Butt Joints happen any place two ends butt up against each other. Unlike the tapered edges on the top and bottom of sheetrock, butt joints are just flat (There is no cavity to fill with mud). If you were to take a wide knife, and place it on a butt joint, you will see that not only is it flat but many times you will be able to rock the knife back and forth because it's a little humped already. What you are trying to do is build up the mud on each side of the tape to make the joint as flat as possible. The picture below gives you a rough idea on what you're trying to do here. 1st coat (Yellow) you will use a 10 inch knife. This might not always be the case, every butt will be different. Step 1: Mix Mud Mix up your mud.

Thin your mud down with a little water. Step 2: Spread one side Using a drywall pan full of mud and your 10 inch knife, spread a nice even bed of mud on one side of the butt. Just apply nice even pressure on the center of the knife. Carriage Doors. Densepack Cellulose Insulweb.
