Top 9 Tools for On Set Live Chroma Keying When it comes to the world of chroma key technology, there are many factors that go into a great key. There are specific lighting scenarios, the types of green or blue screens, your camera, the amount of skill you possess, and second most importantly… the software you use. We are going to take a look at nine of the most useful pieces of software out there to make your life that little bit easier when it comes to checking your keys in real time, or checking out the mattes to make sure that the footage you are shooting is going to be the easiest to work with in post. Audi : Paper Liberation | jordibares

http://www.jordibares.com/2011_07_19/audi-paper-liberation/ This is one of those jobs that pushes our technical tricks to the limit, from the shoot itself that required lots of time and effort to the actual paper carving and of course, paper landing in a natural way but directable and for this we used every single tool under the sky, from XSI to Maya to Houdini, from Zbrush to… anyway… almost all of them. And on the journey I had the luck to work again with extremely talented people that managed their chunk in a such a brilliant way the whole project was a breeze. Starting with a studio shoot we planned to build a rig for the camera and also a air sucking device so we could get in camera as much as possible and instead of doing a fully CG job just substitute the backgrounds with live action from a location shot… the result as spectacular when working at high speeds and highly poetic imagery although every time we needed to lift a lot of paper the air sucking device was limiting us a lot.

Frustum v1.0 08/16/2011 Added the Frustum SOP. PrimitiveCentroid v2.0 08/16/2011 Changed how groups are processed. Previously, a point would be created at the center of the entire group. Now, a point is created for each primitive in that group. Removed the Use Groups toggle and renamed Primitive Groups to Group. Keeping consistent with Houdini, if no groups are chosen, all primitives are used.

These movies are made with a setup I created for doing particle morphing effects in Houdini. The initial idea for the setup is from Peter Claes’ technical dvd, but it has been greatly expanded to take color and normals into account. It also allows the user to specify attributes to use to blend between color/motion/normals (such as distance to target, age of particle, length of time in group, etc), which are hooked up to ramps for a great deal of control.

This small site contains project files for my tutorials on vimeo - in the Project Files directory available on the left. It also contains the vimeo tutorials in categorised by subject - see the links on the left. Of course it's not always straightforward to categorise videos which cover several subjects, so the boundaries are not rigid. For all of these tutorials some basic knowledge of Houdini is assumed - at a minimum having mastered all the introductory videos that come as part of the 'Start Here' help.
