Helping improve students’ English - Community. A TOTAL of 98 Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETA), accompanied by the US Embassy officials, pooled their knowledge and expertise in driving impactful programmes to contribute to the development of the Malaysian community at IM4U Sentral, Puchong. Held for the 11th year, the Fulbright ETA Programme aims to assist teachers and students with the English language in Malaysia. Under the Malaysian-American Commission On Educational Exchange (MACEE), the programme provides scholars an opportunity to teach English in various public schools in Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak for a full academic year.

With their expertise in teaching English and iM4U’s vast network of volunteers and activities nationwide, the collaboration also serves as an opportunity to expand the programme, especially in rural and less-developed areas in Malaysia where English is needed. Rudy says the collaboration enables the two parties to tap into each other’s knowledge and skills. University of Arkansas Hosts 80 Fulbrighters From Afghanistan | University of Arkansas. Each year, more than 8,000 Fulbrighters from around the world are selected to build relationships, knowledge and leadership skills in support of critical priorities in the long-term interests of the United States and the world. Shields said all the Fulbrighters who visited last semester are enrolled in graduate study at universities across the United States. FSU Fulbright Scholar to teach universal language of music at Russian conservatory - Florida State University News. Florida State University Professor Iain Quinn will teach organ lessons, give lectures and play concerts this semester at the distinguished Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia, through a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award. The conservatory is one of the largest and most prestigious music schools in Eurasia and the world. “I’m thrilled at this opportunity,” said Quinn, an assistant professor of organ and coordinator of sacred music at FSU’s College of Music.

Russia’s organ culture is different from North America and Western Europe because organists in Russia are typically more focused on concert work rather than church work. In Russia, organists are often able to make a consistent income with recital work because their skills are in demand at concert halls alongside other instrumentalists. “You see far higher attendance at concerts than you would generally in North America and Western Europe and that’s also the case in the former Eastern-bloc countries. Fulbright Student Helps Revitalize Emirati Art. Alumna Suzy Sikorski says her initial interest in the Middle East was rooted in her childhood growing up as a New Yorker in a post 9/11 environment.

“My first exposure to the Middle East was through seeing war-torn images in the newspapers,” says Sikorski, FCRH ‘16. “These images have stuck with me.” The images, in fact, inspired her to explore the language and culture herself rather than “being swayed by stereotypes.” Sikorski, who majored in Middle East studies is spending the year abroad on a Fulbright research grant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where she is interviewing Emirati artists, working to preserve local artistic traditions, and fostering a greater understanding of local art histories within the community. Suzy Sikorski “Emiratis make up about only 10 percent of the nation’s population,” says Sikorski.

To those ends, Sikorski is hoping to revitalize Emirati art in an area that is becoming more and more influenced by Western culture. —Mary Awad. Journal Courier | ISD Fulbright scholar going to New Zealand. Illinois School for the Deaf students, faculty and staff gathered Friday to extend well wishes to a veteran ISD teacher who will go abroad to hone her educational skills. Sherry Humphries of Jacksonville has been awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching Fellowship and will fly to New Zealand on Saturday to begin five months of research on project-based learning and its uses.

In project-based learning “students do a project of their interest, and that’s how they can incorporate a variety of academic skills at the same time” said Humphries, who teaches science and history at ISD’s high school. “I definitely want to bring back experiential learning techniques to use with my students.” Humphries said one example of project-based learning that she plans to implement is to give students the problem of building an earthquake-proof structure and then test various ideas to protect the building from earthquakes. Humphries has been a teacher for 27 years, 22 of which have been at ISD.

Fulbright takes researcher to Sweden to study new transistor materials. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Cell phones, laptops and other portable electronic devices rely on the semiconductor material silicon to provide computing power and speed, but that won't always be the case. "The semiconductor industry is reaching the end of the road in terms of the performance they can get out of silicon, so they are looking at other materials that can help," said Joan Redwing, Penn State professor of materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, and electrical engineering. "There's an interest in developing transistors that can operate at lower power to reduce the battery requirements of current portable devices. " Potential replacements for silicon are III-V semiconductor nanowires made out of materials such as gallium antimonide, which Redwing spent three months researching at Lund University in Sweden, as part of the competitive Fulbright Scholar Program.

Nanowires are strands of material ranging from a few to hundreds of nanometers wide. Newport-Mesa teacher heading to New Zealand for research through Fulbright award - Daily Pilot. When special-education teacher Brian Ristow and his family traveled to New Zealand two years ago, he saw that elementary school students weren't wearing shoes to class. They wore shoes on the school bus and at home, he said, but not during school hours. Ristow, who has taught in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District for seven years, also noticed how students at New Zealand's secondary schools were making a choice to wear shoes to class. "It seemed to be the norm," said Ristow, who teaches students with moderate to severe disabilities from across the district at TeWinkle Intermediate School in Costa Mesa.

"There was a sense of students driving the education and them being part of the decision-making … like a natural, organic flow of child development," he said. That observation sparked Ristow's research proposal on student-led learning for the 2016 Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching, a highly competitive honor sponsored by the U.S. A fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday at Sgt. During interviews you will be given case problems that you would need to solve on the spot. Use a graphical issue tree (or logic tree) method to break a complex problem down into its component parts. Focus on the most pressing problems by using a hypothesis-driven approach. This approach will significantly increase your speed during interviews, which is a highly desired skill amongst consultants.

Start with a problem-based tree to detect the problem and end with a solution-based tree to fix it There are two types of issue trees during case interviews: A problem-based tree can be used to determine the root cause of the problem and understand the "why" the problem exists A solution-based tree can be used to determine the recommendation and understand the “how” to solve the problem Ensure that your issues are MECE, otherwise it would be extremely challenging to tackle each branch independently. The most desired approach is the answer-first or results-first in consulting. Key takeaways. Oliver Wyman case: Setting up a Wine Cellar - PrepLounge.com.
