The Principal of Change | Stories of learning and leading. Musings From The Island | My thoughts on education, kayaking and island life. My first presentation at #ililc4 and I mean my very first EVER was a session attempting to address what to do if you only have 1 iPad in your classroom.

I was lucky enough to be given an iPad to trial in my classroom 2 years ago, in my session I looked to provide delegates with a list of apps that they could successfully use in a 1 iPad classroom. Having only 1 iPad in the classroom allows you to make yourself the expert on the tool. You will have to work at this, use your iPad regularly and when you hit a problem, search for a solution on Google or ask on Twitter or someone else in your school in this way you will learn about the functionality of the iPad and what to do when it doesn’t quite work. Better that you learn when you only have one to deal with than when you have a class set. Although we think our young people are tech savvy they aren’t as savvy as you may imagine and will need, just like you, to learn how to use an iPad effectively.

With the recent release of DoInk's Green Screen app, multi-track, layered green screen footage can now be created, smashed together and edited on an iPad. While the app was intended to capture green screen footage with actors in front of a chroma key backdrop, it is also possible to use video creation apps such as Explain Everything and Tellagami to capture a similar effect. Click here to watch a video tutorial that walks through the entire process. Below is a screen shot of Explain Everything with a chroma key green background & the app smash logo (courtesy of @mrhooker). Simply press record, animate the object & export the final video to the camera roll for future use.

Along with Explain Everything, Tellagami allows the background to be manipulated behind the avatar. Once all of the green/blue screen footage is created, up to three video tracks can be layered in DoInk. Video Tutorial: Remix Teaching | Pedagogy x Technology x Pop Culture | by Dan Callahan. View the e-learning game I know there are a lot of folks in the community who are looking to build games in Storyline, or who just want to know more about using games in e-learning. If either sounds like you, then you’ll love this week’s challenge. This week we’re going to look at transforming a quiz into a simple e-learning game. In reality, these types of games are more like glorified progress meters than high-production games. Choose a game theme What type of game do you want? Backgrounds create context Once you’ve found a theme, the next step is to head over to your favorite stock photo site for some background graphics that match your theme. Select the style of game How do you want your learners to move through the game? Linear: Learners follow a path of challenge questions. Non-linear: Learners move through the game by choosing one of the markers or buttons placed around the game board.
