En Grande Bretagne il a rapidement obtenu une grande notoriété dans les milieux alternatifs; mais les médias traditionnels se sont intéressé assez vite lui. En dépit de cette attention, il parvient soigneusement à maintenir sa vraie identité cachée. Même si des photos supposées de lui circulent ainsi que des hypothèses sur son nom.

On comprend bien que son anonymat soit vital en raison des remous provoqués par ses oeuvres et des risques de poursuites judiciaires. Et puis ce mystère alimente grandement sa notoriété et sa valeur marchande... Il a commencé par orner les murs de sa (?) Il a ensuite migré vers Londres et essaimer ses images dans le monde entier. Il combine souvent les techniques du graffiti et du pochoir pour faire passer ses messages. Banksy says he was inspired by “3D” (Robert Del Naja), a graffiti artist who also used a graffiti stencil campaign. Banksy does not sell photographs or reproductions of his work, which demonstrates the reason he makes art: to target the society’s norms and exploit them to the public. This piece depicts a woman being pulled down/falling and reaching for a shopping cart. The woman is shaded blue and the cart, black.

From my perspective, the colour black represents authority, intimidating, and unfriendly. I like this piece and the artist because his pieces make the viewer think about the meaning. Banksy. Banksy is an England-based graffiti artist, political activist and film director of unverified identity.
